2010 OL Class/2010 OL Roster

These guys will be better than expected. Douglas will be a fine left tackle. Jawuan James is going to have to grow up quick and start at right tackle. Shaw can fill in nicely at one of the guard spots. That leaves Dallas Thomas among others competing for the other two spots. Oh, btw, we have a damn good offensive line coach. Just give these guys some time.

Just a small detail Bowens is listed as JR, any chance he'd start? Or should we expect him to convert to a DL since we need depth and he has played it some?

Here is a look at the depth and projected position of the 2010 Vol Offensive line..

Senior
Bowens...6'3 293 OG Transfer from TSU (Played DT for TSU)
J. Shaw...6'4 332 OG

Junior
C. Pope...6'6 288 OT

Soph. & RS. Fres.
A. Douglas...6'6 282 OT........D. Hood...6'5 260 (RSF)OL
B. Gaylon...6'5 310 OG.......J.Scholfield...6'6 315(RSF) OL
K. Revis...6'4 265 (RSF) OC....D.Thomas...6'5 268 (RS So)OG

Incoming Class
J.James......6'6 293 OT
J. Stone....6'5 297 OG
M. Pair......6'6 260 OT
Z. Fulton...6'4 306 OC/OG

There are a few kids on the scout team not listed here and I am not sure if Scholfield is still a Vol.
You can see we are extremly young at this position. Just thought it might be interesting for some guys to see.

Go CDD aNd GBO!!!

Bowens is gone, left program

Schofield still there

Our O Line isnt gonna be as bad as everyone thinks imo

I agree. Most will have 2 years of S & C, Chaney will keep continuity in the line calls so that there is less confusion, and Cregg and Heistand are both excellent o-line coaches. I'm not saying we're going to run for 300 yds/game but it will not be as bad as most of you are thinking. Now, the d-line.......

Right Tackle

1. Douglas 2. James

Right Guard

1. Scofield 2. Fulton

Center

1. Pope 2. Hood

Left Guard

1. Shaw 2. Stone

Left Tackle

1. Thomas 2. James

James and Stone would be starting by the end of season.

This line-up really doesnt look half bad. We weren't that bad last year and I think we'll be as good or a little better this year.

The psychology of projecting weak lines is self-defeating. There are unproven lineman, O & D, on board and no one was going to beat out Big Dan.

Seems like it was a fairly strong class from the O line perspective. CDD stated that hopefully we got the guys to fill D-Line needs and that it will be a primary concern next year. I like the athleticism and speed of this class. Seems like the curve is on the upswing. CDD talked about how players grow and change from year to year. I am excited to see how the guys who are in the pipeline perform.

The only positive is that we will be experienced and talented for 2011. But 2010 is going to be brutal when we play oregon, florida, lsu, georgia, bama, and ole miss. I don't think we'll be able to physically compete with those guys for 4 quarters.

Unfortunately no. This is rediculously thin and young

We will be markedly worse. And we are one injury from a true freshman playing. That is a disaster. Only true freshmen I ever remember starting on the line are munoz and c. Coleman and they struggled some. They guys aren't in their class. In two years we have a good base for a line. Right now, we've just got trouble.

If im not mistaken, victor thomas was getting strong looks and good reviews at center during the bowl game prep practices from kitten and crew. He was projected to be center in 2010 with revis close behind.

Regardless, we will be fine after a couple games of figuring out who will be the main starters and develop continuity. Communication is key on the offensive line and it starts with the center making the blocking adjustments.

James and Stone might be better out of the gate than you expect and if they do start all year by next year that means we have battle tested sophomores. Nobody thinks next year is our year but I dont see it any worse than last year.

Some say Bowens has left the program. I cannot verify that but if u can please post.

Also V. Thomas may be on either line at this point. With depth an issue I think he is the most probable lineman to be switchable...

Do you believe any of the Freshman get 2nd unit rotation minutes???

There are quite a few Fres. and Soph. for them to climb????

Yea, I think JaWuan will definitely get some minutes backing up the 2 starters at OT and probably overtake D. Thomas as a starter next year. Right now, I believe the other 3 will redshirt. I can't really see Stone or Fulton getting time at Guard right now. Pope and Brimfield should stay in front of them even though they are awful.

One spot Stone could play at is possibly Center. If Victor Thomas can't grasp the spot or if he is moved back to DT, then the C job is wide open and is going to be a battle between Pope, Hood, Stone, and Revis and I'm not sure who would win it. But I expect Victor to be the C atm.

LOL!!!! I have heard Scholfield has been a huge dissapointment. Heard anything????

D. Hood is up to 285lbs. That could really make a difference if he puts on a little more weight and strength. He is very athletic>>>

nah I've heard the exact opposite on Schofield. He impressed the last staff near the end of the year. He will be getting minutes somewhere for sure, a 2nd stringer at the very worst. I think he slides inside at starts at Guard. Pope and Brimfield were the 2 I was talking about being awful. Schofield will be a good one.

I think Hood will be hard pressed to see the field alot this year jmo.

Thats great news.. I know we are young but by mid season we may be respectable on the OL...

1 More good recruiting year on the OL & LB and I think we may have the WR,OL, DB and LB positions lined out.

QB and DL may take a little longer...IMO...
