Arkansas just one of many schools after Okie
January 30, 2009 – 6:00 am Junior offensive lineman Bronson Irwin (6-6, 305, 5. 2) of Mustang, Okla., is considered one of the top 2010 prospects in the Sooner state and is already receiving scholarship offers. He got his first offer from Tulsa during the fall and recently picked up his second and third offers last Friday and Saturday.
Irwin said Arkansas offered him on Friday and while attending Oklahoma’s Junior Dday on Saturday, he was offered a scholarship.
“It’s really an honor especially since they’re top schools in their conferences,” Irwin said. “
Oklahoma offensive line coach James Patton showed Irwin and his parents around the campus before being told to go to Coach Bob Stoop’s office.
“He told me Coach Stoops wanted me in his office to talk to me,” said Irwin, who said he lived in Malvern for two years when he was 4 or 5 years old. “We went up there and walked in to his office. There was a box that had a collection of rings and watches from all of the bowl games and conference championship games. I told him they had a nice collection going on and he said he hopefully we can get you one started here and just wanted you know that we had a scholarship here for you.”
He said Tennessee, Arizona, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Oregon and others are showing interest.
Irwin said he hoped to make Arkansas’ Junior Day along with Oklahoma State’s Junior Day. He said he hoped to make his college decision sometime during the summer.
“Most schools honor your scholarship if you get hurt so that would be a good thing to have knowing going into the season that your college education would be paid for.” Irwin said.
