They need to get a decision before exams are finished and practice resumes if they don't want a major distraction. I would assume they coach the NC game regardless but not sure of that.

Kansas: In the biggest news of the last two days, KU hired Florida OC Charlie Weis.

Arizona State: This search has turned into a disaster and an embarrassment for ASU after backing out of a deal with SMU HC June Jones. Former USF HC Jim Leavitt and Tennessee DC Justin Wilcox are the hot names right now.

Colorado State: Candidates include Notre Dame WR coach Tony Alford (a CSU alum), LSU WR coach Billy Gonzales (also a CSU alum), and Wisconsin OC Paul Chryst.

Fresno State: Although he backed out of the Memphis job, Alabama OC Jim McElwain is a candidate for Fresno. He was OC at Fresno in 2007.

Illinois: Illinois is "zeroing in" on Toledo HC Tim Beckman.

Two new hires...

Colorado St. hired Bama OC Jim McElwain, and Toledo hired Matt Campbell, who was formerly the OC under Beckman before he left for Illinois.

Fresno State: Rumor has it that former Texas A&M DC Tim DeRuyter will be named HC tomorrow.

Hawaii: Candidates include Utah OC Norm Chow and Jacksonville Jaguars OC Dirk Koetter.

Southern Miss: Candidates include OC Blake Anderson (who was under Fedora at USM), South Carolina DC Ellis Johnson, and LSU RB coach Frank Wilson.

Penn State: There's still a lot of uncertainty. The PSU search has been fairly quiet.

Akron: Everything I can find suggests that DII Wayne State HC Paul Winters is still the top candidate. If a deal is done, it will likely happen after Wayne State plays in the DII championship on Saturday. The other name is former UCLA OC Mike Johnson, who played for Akron and as of right now, may not be retained by new UCLA HC Jim Mora Jr.

Houston: Top candidates for the UH job include Oklahoma St. associate HC and ST coach Joe Deforest (who is very well connected to the Houston area), interim HC Tony Levine, and Louisiana Tech HC Sonny Dykes.

Southern Miss: USM has been busy with interviews. Candidates include Oklahoma St. OC Todd Monken, South Carolina DC Ellis Johnson, Murray St. HC Chris Hatcher, current OC Blake Anderson, Louisiana-Lafayette OC Jay Johnson, and (pipe dream) Alabama DC Kirby Smart.

Penn State has been way too quiet. Are they waiting until after bowl season? That will put alot of pressure on the new coach to bring in a 2012 class.

Penn State: Ever since the Dan Mullen talk early on, this search has quieted considerably. PSU may wait for a few weeks before naming their head coach.

Pittsburgh: Early names include Wisconsin OC Paul Chryst and FIU HC Mario Cristobal.

Southern Miss: Alabama DC Kirby Smart interviewed on Thursday, but took his name out of the running for the USM job. Current OC Blake Anderson, South Carolina DC Ellis Johnson, and Murray State HC Chris Hatcher still are the main candidates.

Akron: It appears that Paul Winters is staying at Wayne State. Temple OC Scot Loeffler is now the frontrunner.

They hire Cristobal and they'll be back to 10 win seasons.
