2012 GOP Nomination

Solid post. I agree that the support or disapproval number is the most important statistic. Depends on which presidential election expert or statistician you talk to. The biggest factor in any presidential election is the economy. As the Ragin' Cajun so eloquently stated "It's the economy stupid!"

I disagree about a major scandal. This administration has been straight teflon on scandalous behavior thus far. It would have to be a fairly egregious, undeniable scandal to cause him any sort of trouble. Judging from the Fast and the Furious scandal, he has nothing to worry about. The only thing he hasn't been able to shake is the economic woes of the country.

I meant scandal by his opponent - not him. :hi:

Somewhat relevant, and I lol'd

Ouch

The effort began in earnest with a morning conference call with the news media, in which James M. Talent, a former congressman and senator from Missouri, and John Sununu, who had been chief of staff to President George H.W. Bush, ripped into Gingrich

“What we’re here to say — with reluctance, but clearly — is that he’s not a reliable and trusted conservative leader,” Talent said. “Because he’s not a reliable or trustworthy leader.”

Gingrich “is more concerned about Newt Gingrich than he is about conservative principle,” Sununu said.

Limbaugh completely nailed this yesterday. The polls reflect GOP voters telling the party they're sick of nominating cookie cutter, establishment losers.

people are sick of people running *for office* who make them squirm. Like watching a never ending conversation between used car salesmen.

*that post made no sense without the edit

The youth like RP because he is pro legalizing drugs

Also because he's the only candidate (other than Johnson) who can promise true fiscal reform. Not just a band-aid. America's youth is worried about the debt past generations have saddled them with.

Yes, I am serious. The balanced budget stuff is just an "Oh yea, that too"

I guess all of us young folks who are also Paul supporters are just potheads who want to see marijuana legalized. If only we would take a break from getting high and actually figure out what his stances are, maybe there would be hope for us still.

I never said pot heads are stupid. What I am saying, is that the youth hear "end the war on drugs" and their ears perk up. They then hear "balance budget" and "end war" and they are sold. If he never mentions "end the war on drugs", 2/3rds of his young supporters would say, "who is this guy? Mr. Magoo?"

You are dead wrong, sir.

I agree a lot with what Ron Paul says about issues, and I really appreciate the fact that he is very consistent in his beliefs, but then he throws some nutball stuff out about foreign policy and I just can't find myself agreeing with him.

That's cool, but you are fooling yourself If you think there is no correlation between young voter support and a candidate who is pro drugs

I agree that being pro drug will gain Paul some of the younger votes, at the same time, he will also lose a majority of the older vote.
