2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

Does he have a perimeter game? They describe him as a point forward type of player. Being that skinny I feel like he would develop into a SF at the college level.

Strengths:
Fundamentally sound big man who keeps the ball high on the block and off the boards, he can score with his back to the basket, runs the floor very well and can knock down a short jumper.

Weaknesses:
Seems to be a trend of thin post/wing players in the Memphis area. Nichols is sound fundamentally but he has narrow shoulders and needs upper body strength badly to compete on the interior on the next level.

Bottom Line:
Nichols is a hard worker who has excellent footwork and passing skills out of the post.

Most likely will be a 4, possibly a 5, but I see no chance of being a 3. His game is very post orientated.

Hmm. I don't know where I got point forward from. Must have him confused with someone else haha.

I agree. With that said he does have a year and a half to continue to build his body and put some weight on if he chooses that he wants to be a 5. Either way, I expect him to be very good and hope we can land him.
Land him, King, Kingsley and Hubbs or Thornwell and Stokes might get his wish at Rupp.

The possibility of that class gives me goosebumps. On a more realistic not even if we miss on some guys we are in on many top guys and hopefully can fill out with top talent. From the best of my knowledge we have are in a good position with:

Nichols
Williams lll
King
Hubbs
Kingsley
Bowles
Taylor
Thornwell

Any 4 of these with landry as well is a great class.

The first line of Thornwell's strength calls him a point forward. I think Williams is one as well.

Your right that's what it says. From watching him I don't see that being a position for him in college but maybe. Only being 6'4" thats small to play PF, very small, I see him as a SG and MAYBE a SF.

Would love a class of:
Williams III
King
Hubbs
Nichols/ Kingsley
Landry

They played at ECS tonight. Two damn good prospects in Nichols and Skal. Austin had 20.

Tn/Duke battle as of today with Tn a slight lead after the last 2 weeks of visits/games, etc.

Leslie McDonald could be a factor in his decision. He went to UNC from Briarcrest as a mcd's AA, but it hasn't really panned out. Even prior to injury, he hadn't done much. The talent at the 2 schools is similar. Austin wants to play and knows he can come in early at UT and play.

I really like our chances with him, duke definitely seems to be biggest competition. The fact his parents are both UT Alum definitely doesn't hurt either.
