2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

Really guys, no one really knows at this point least of all the kids.
They're high school juniors and fickle as 11 year old girls.
During their senior seasons, for some their stock will fall and for others stock will rise.
Many will receive many more offers than they already have.
Some will lose offers.
Second or third choices right now could be the number 10 choice 2 months before signing day.
Right now the coaches are putting in the work.
Things will change a lot between now and NSD.

not really anything new. just talked about his visit and what a good time that he had. said he is still pretty neutral and just wants to take a few visits in the fall and then make a decision. sounds like he wants to have a decision made before his senior basketball season starts which could be a good thing for us as far as helping recruiting goes.

said that he has a good relationship with ccm, and that it continues to get better and better. many speculating that its a good sign that he has been to tennessee so many times on unofficials just to come hang out and watch the games.

says that while him and jarnell played together, have the same trainer, and are friends that it wont mean he is following jarnell here. says that is definitely helps but that it isnt a lock that hed come and play with him.

I just watched a few highlights on this kid. One thing that strikes me is how long his arms are. Get him in a college weight program and this kid will be a great defender and help side shot blocker for us. His moves didn't impress me too much, but I believe CCM could develop that.

He's definitely gonba be a 4 if he comes here and not a 5 so that'll help a bit. He really prefers the face up drive or jump shot 4 position game, as you said post up isn't his strong suite. Will beca very good player though, and is a very intelligent kid as well.

After watching him play several times i feel that Austin plays like he's a PF or a C, but he has the size of a slender college SF. Various recruiting sites list him between 6'7-6'9, but he looks like he's about 6'7 IMO. One thing for sure is that he needs to put on weight if he's going to play in the paint.

Seems to me like his game fits the Kyle Singler mold. Perhaps not with range out to the 3 point line. I was referring more to the face up, European forward game. That's probably why Duke likes him too.

I know he is considering Florida, does the fact that the Vols swept the gators help us in recruiting with him?

Well it can't hurt that's for sure. Right now it's tenn, duke and UF in that order. Duke scares me just because of the fact that they are duke and who wouldn't want to go there.

He'll get more playing time at UT, he's not big enough to play the post at Duke nor does he have the outside shot to play the wing.

If your thinking they'll pass on him and font want him you're dead wrong, coach k wants him bad. He's around the same size as singler who played alot of 4, and Austin is only 17 he could grow in the next year and a half.

Not saying Coach K will pass on him, just wondering how he will utilize Nichols. The only thing Nichols has in common with Singler is size; Singler could score from anywhere on the court and Nichols is effective in the post. You're not going to see Nichols shooting 3's or taking defenders off the dribble from beyond the 3pt line.

He's absolute money from 18ft he prefers midrange face up not posting up. I fully expect his outside shot to inprove in the next year and a half. He will be more of a singler type than a bruiser, I can assure you of this.

Nichols reminds me more of Tim Duncan without the size.
