2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

Don't know where that info came from but......Don't feel like looking it up but Memphis is not one of America's largest cities. It's something like 20th largest I think. It's the largest in TN. 2nd largest metropolitan area in TN.

It's a pretty popular tourist town because of Graceland and Beale Street. U of Memphis has been in the top 10 NCAA basketball attendance for the past 4 years.

Another Memphis poster posted that info...

Meanwhile tennessee has been top 5 in attendance....6 years in a row now?

It is impressive that UT always fills their arena even during their down years. I still can't believe Florida rarely sells out that puny 12k seat arena. After what Billy D has given them they should be the 2nd most rabid fan base in the SEC. No offense to the UF posters here but Donovan deserves to coach at a premier program. Hell he'd have more support at UT then he has at UF.

Bask in the world of the clueless, if you wish. Memphis is NOT a bad town to live in, contrary to what I thought before moving here from Knoxville.

Again, I was raised in Memphis and am raising a family. It is home for me and am happy. I don't consider it a tourist town, but if people want to quibble about the Europeans and those from the Far East who visit Graceland, than so be it. But it is not like Charleston, SC where I visit frequently. My response was to the caption if the picture that mentioned Memphis' attendance. Memphis fans may not understand that UT fills TBA as well. It is not just a football school. There is a strong group of basketball fans. I have seen UT play at Florida, at Alabama, at Ole Miss, at Mississippi State, at Arkansas, and in Nashville at various times. UT supports basketball....end if story.

I like Memphis. People are friendly, food is good, and there is enough to keep one busy.

I'm just not a fan of the athletics program, no disrespect.

I assume Memphis has been in the top 10 for a while. I just remember seeing something written about the past four years. I think somebody was ignoring some of the Cal years. I think both places support their BB.

Yeah, I think most Memphis fans realize that UT fills the seats for basketball as well.

Seems like we are getting awfully worked up over a guy that will probably bust out in college. IMO, he's just not strong enough to be a dominant player. Players today should, and the really good ones do, look like Stokes. AN will get pushed around in the SEC.

He might. He has put on some weight recently. I think he'll hold his own. He may not be a dominent player in college but I think he'll be good enough to make the next level in a couple of years.

I disagree about the potential. No one can predict the future. But you can develop a lot of strength in a college program. I actually think Stokes could have a little issue at the next level because of his height. He is fine for college but he has to play the 4 because of his size. May be a bit short in the NBA. He needs to be able to shoot the 16 footer on a consistent basis.

FWIW-FWIW-FWIW

Austin's uncle says he would be very surprised to see him go anywhere other than Memphis. His mother is pushing for Memphis very hard.:cray::cray::cray:

First 48 has officially ruined the attractiveness of Memphis

What cities have you seen on First 48 that make you want to visit? They are going to show high crime areas almost everywhere they're filming. Memphis is not what you see on the show. Sure there's a high crime rate like most metropolitan areas but it does have some nice burbs as well. Some of the towns just outside of Memphis are very nice.

I just posted this in his visit thread and tifwiw but Skeeter is on twitter saying "looks like the basketvols just got some very good news."

I can tell you some stories of Knoxville murders that would turn your stomach. There's crime everywhere. Don't hang out in Nutbush in Memphis, or places like it, and you shouldn't have to worry.

A friend of mine I went to high school with was brutally murdered on Western Ave in Knoxville. I've lived in Memphis for 17 years and have never personally known anyone murdered here. I love both cities, but one can't be naive enough to think that crime isn't everywhere.

Where did you hear that?

Click on his name, and read his other posts, dudes a troll...

Just an update on info circulating around Memphis. Talk shows are saying now that Nichols has decided to cancel all OV's, as he knows where he is going. Local 560 am is saying "he is a homebody" and they feel he will be announcing for UM or UT. FWIW

^Obviously turned out false

Just thought I would jump in again. I am still going to say it will be Duke. Nichols entire family is totally Big Orange in all sports. I vaguely know some of them, but I don't have a any inside info except the fact that Austin does not like the makeup of the players on the UT team.

Maybe the family ties can eventually pull him to UT but I think it will be hard to do. I absolutely hope they can do it!

^suggesting our team has too many blacks

You guys are really living a pipedream. there is no way we get more than 1 of the big 4 you are listing. We may get lucky and get Hubbs, but I don't think we get Nichols, King, Williams, and Crawford is a long shot.:eek:hmy::eek:hmy:

He had that opportunity, and he turned it down. Apparently Donovan doesn't see things the same way that you do.
