ESPN Evaluation

Strengths:
This is a big with a diverse skill set. Absolutely committed to rebounding, Woodson has a presence in the lane. Very good finisher and he will put down the balls he's supposed to finish. His face up game is legit from the baselines and mid-wing area. Because of his IQ, you can run offense with him and he's an ideal high-post passer. Remarkable feel as a passer for a kid his size.

Weaknesses:
Athletically he's average and therefore has to rely more on his skill and knowledge around the floor. Would like to see a scoring move in the paint with a counter. Needs more explosion going to the rim.

Bottom Line:
What we have here is a native of Texas who's been coached and responds well to coaching. He wants to get better and takes coaching well. Can play in just about any offense because of his overall skill set. Top 100 talent in the 2013 class.

Dominic Woodson's stock continues to rise - ESPN

From SLAM: "Most of the other guys on the list have bigger names and have all reclass’d a year, but you could make a case for Woodson outplaying any underclassmen at the National Prep Showcase. The true junior threw around his 260-pound body in the paint to snag boards, but also shocked most onlookers with his ability to step out and shoot the lights out out to the college 3. Playing on center stage on the loaded Northeast prep school scene, expect the Texas native to be a household name among recruiting circles by the end of the season."

From Rivals: "A native Texan, the 6-foot-9, 250-plus-pound big man slid into the national top 100 for the class of 2013 following the summer. It looks like his climb up the rankings will continue. Not only is he big and strong, but he dominates the glass, has soft hands and a high level of skill."

Has interest in Tennessee, no offer as of yet from what I've gathered.

Him and Kingsley would be a nasty 1-2 punch in the post.

You know who else was committed to rebounding? Kenneth Faried. Although Faried seems to be more athletic between the two, I'd definitely take someone of the same mindset.

Him, Kingsley, and Mitchell as your bigs for 2013?

:eek:hmy:

That's some serious length/size right there...

and if Jarnell wants to stay for one more year for his junior year

Im not hating on Martin at all, but whos a big name hes recruited to UT besides Stokes? Gotta wait and see how the next couple classes go before we can say he can recruit or not.

You mean in his 1 1/2 recruiting classes? For crying out loud...Jarnell Stokes is a big enough name for a man in his, what, 10th month on the job?

i was about to say he has brought in 1 class so far, how can you say that? technically his 1 class included a 5*, a 4*, and 2 2*, and 2 unranked; that is pretty impressive for what UT was going through.

Not a big name, but I sure like Josh Richardson.

Huh? I'm just saying u can't say he's a great recruiter YET... Just bc rivals or whoever says theres interest from a top 100 guy in the next class, doesn't mean he's ours. Jarnell is the only really good get to date. That was a fantastic job by him, but let's not crown him as an elite recruiter yet. Hope he keeps up the good work, so we can call him a great recruiter tho.. We will need it with calapari, Donovan, and fox in the league...

Who is the 4*? Landing Stokes definitely gave me a little peace of mind.. The first few guys he recruited had me a little worried about his ability and/or idea of what it takes to win in this league...

Eh... He has some good qualities.. Maybe not the type of player that we need starting and relying on to make clutch plays for us tho.. He could be a great player coming off the bench for us.. Gives great effort..

He did convince Chris jones to stay and he is shown as part of this class, to me that does show some recruiting ability on his part. I know he didn't get in and that Bruce started with him but just referring to CCM ability to recruit he showed a great ability to be able to have jones recommit as well IMO.

I really really want this guy. 6'10 260? thats a monster. I like that he's described as being committed to rebounding and is a good passer. Give Martin a few years with him and this guy could be special.

If Martin can recruit one of the Memphis kids next year, no one could talk about the mans recruiting compared to Bruce. Looking forward to seeing how that plays out. Guy is getting really good props in the media and everyone mentions how he's "changing the culture at ut" so we'll see!

i am very excited about the '13 class. it can be the class that really decidees the immediate future of this program, we are disposing of so much marginal talent and have the chance to bring in top tier talent.

Has not trimmed list. Apparently gained some weight, but picked up a UConn offer.

Haven't heard anything about UT lately with him.

Yea don't think UT is recruiting him.

I lied...

Dominic Woodson has cut his list to...10!

Not sure the point of that really, but whatever...

Kentucky, Nc State, Baylor, Texas A&M, Uconn, Memphis, TENNESSEE, Cincinnati, Rhode Island and Oklahoma

Here's the kicker...he is attending Huntington Prep this year in WV. Guess who the PG of that school is, Travon Landry, TIFWIW.

Do you still think Landry will be part of this class? I remember you saying he was not doing well at camps/tournaments (don't remember what you said it was) and was not sure he would be part of class a while back.

I really don't know. I think we take a PG, right now that's either Landry who's committed, or Samuel, we just made his top 6. Samuel is the much better player, atleast from all accounts. We will not take both, but i do think we take a PG, unless a lot of the guys were in on from Memphis want to come here, which I don't see.

So basically, I see it being Landry or Samuel as being the most likely for PG, but dont expect both.

Woodson breaks down each of the 10 schools he's interested in...

Joey Natale

Huntington Prep's newest member Dominic Woodson caught up with Coast 2 Coast Hoops to breakdown his recently released final 10 school list. The schools that made the cut for the 6-foot-10, 265 pound big man are North Carolina State, Baylor, Texas A&M, UConn, Memphis, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Kentucky, Cincinnati and Tennessee.

North Carolina State: "They have a great coaching staff that came to see me play a lot this July. They always have good players coming in and I want to get on campus real soon. I would definitely make a good fit there."

Baylor: "Baylor is very close to home. They have a great coaching staff and a very nice campus that I've been on a few times.

Texas A&M: "They're real close to home too. They have a great coaching staff and they saw me play a lot. I've visited there a bunch of time as well."

UConn: "I visited them when I was at Vermont Academy. Coach Calhoun and Coach Ollie are very cool guys. They get a lot of big men to the next level, and I like that about them."

Memphis: "I don't know that much about Memphis. I've spoken to Coach Pastner a few times and he's a real cool coach. I could be an instant impact there."

Oklahoma: "They have great coaches. Oklahoma was one of the first schools to offer me and they're close to home."

Rhode Island: "They have a great environment on campus and Coach Hurley and Coach Murphy are great coaches."

Kentucky: "Kentucky hasn't offered yet but Coach Antigua has called me a bunch of times. They've seen me play a bunch of times too. I could see myself playing there."

Cincinnati: "Coach Cronin is a great coach and he has a great history with his big men like Yancy Gates. I want to take a visit there soon."

Tennessee: " Tennessee has a great program with a great coaching staff. I would make an instant impact there."

Woodson later added that he wants to cut his list down to 5 schools, and take an official visit to each school. He has no timetable on his decision yet.
