Where do we stand at the DL position with the loss of longtime JUCO DL commit Lambert today. Some insiders in the RF posted that the Coaches were really counting on Lambert. This loss could hurt us next season. I know CBJ has said that DL is the most important position besides QB on the team.

Uh, well, bad?

If we can land a guy like Jihad Ward we can patch the holes but Lambert was obviously their choice of the 2 JUCOs.

If we don't land a JUCO DE or DT that can play SDE we'll have to rely on current roster.

That's not good, IMO, as we only really have Jordan Williams that has seen any PT and a gaggle of Freshmen.

Not being a Debbie Downer but this could severely affect our DL as a game-ready JUCO at SDE is not something you can just patch up.

Maybe they put Carr through the ringer and get him slimmed down so he can play SDE? I don't know. Besides Blair, Lambert was the biggest need... ahead of Pearson IMO.

Weatherd is another must get and he seems firm... but so did Lambert.

Thanks for the analysis. This is what i was thinking. Who on the current roster has a chance to play well?

AFAIK, at SDE, we have:

* 4* RS FR Carr who is listed as a SDE but I thought he switched to DT. UT's roster just has him at DL. He was SDE coming out of HS, I'd think they'd move him back there ASAFP if he was at DT. This would give Carr winter/spring/summer to get into SDE shape if he had been projecting at DT.

* 3* Jordan Williams. He got some playing time but didn't amount to much. Played in 12 games, got 18 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Didn't see the field a whole lot as he was buried behind Miller/Walls.

Most DEs we have look to be WDE so I'm guessing they'll look at which guys could scout out best and put them there.

In the JUCO world we were going after 4* Jihad Ward but cooled on him when we got Lambert. With Lambert now bucking us, I'd think we go after Ward.

Incoming Freshman Derrick Barnett is listed as a SDE but I think he moves inside.

Incoming Freshman Dwayne Hendrix is a SDE and I'd think he stays there. If Carr/Williams/Ward don't pan out, I think he'll get PT.

Easy now.

I think we'll wind up being fine with the loss of Lambert. I mean, it wouldn't hurt to get a guy of his caliber but I think we'll be alright. Was he projected to be a DT or a DE at the college level?

AFAIK SDE.

And losing him depends on how things shake out. If we get Jihad Ward and Jason Carr works out well at SDE it isn't the end of the world.

Certainly, if we had to lose either Lambert or Blair... it'd be Lambert every day of the week.

And we beat Auburn head-head for Blair as well.

Hard to replace a game ready JUCO, as already pointed out. I'm trying to look on the bright side, which is this gives us another slot for another recruit, right?

I expect Butch has a backup plan for any position where we get a decommit. We have Jason Carr and Trevarius Saulsberry. The next two Danny O'Brien and Greg Clark. We have that big Carson kid don't really know what is going on with him. Jordan Williams is a guy that could also play in there. Still have freshmen Thomas, Moseley, and JC Owen Williams who was a JC All American. Surely we can get four competent guys out of these players.

It sucks losing him but its going to be OK.
Vereen and Williams at end, O'Brien and saulsberry / Carr/ o Williams on the interior.
You have the group of freshman and redshirt freshman, guys like j Miller, Hendrix, Barnett, etc assuming they all sign.
Also possible that we see weatherd and maggitt in situations lined down.
We will be OK.

I'm sure their success has nothing to do with it.

Did you know that Auburn paid Cam Newton and the NCAA did nothing? Did you know that 2 coaches were taken off the recruiting trail last year (Trooper Taylor was one of them) because they were most likely about to get caught for paying recruits? Did you know the FBI was looking into them and probably still is for money laundering tied to casinos?

Auburn is a dirty, dirty program, and the way this went down suggests something less than honorable happened.

Big time. They are already claiming that Auburn paid him.

Yeah Auburn never pays anyone or cheats right? :eek:lol:
I am not saying they did but would it surprise me? No. So I guess you were with Lamber every time he met with Auburn right? So you know they didn't pay him right?

Did you know that most Vol fans always have excuses for everything?
