And we lost 4 games by a combined 140 points and are spending the Bowl season at home.

These are facts, folks. Deny them if you want but if you want to know why we're losing these recruits... that is why.

good gracious man we lost one juco and still have more 4 and 5 stars committed than any other team.
Panic, knee jerk reactions abound.

So where do you think this class finishes up, rankings-wise? I'm curious. How many more flips do you expect?

Call me chicken little if you want but these are commitments. They don't mean a thing.

We'll revisit this on NSD. Calling these guys firm, at this point, is a moot point. As I stated, we're going head-head with Auburn over 2 4* guys. Lets see if we hold onto them when Auburn turns up the heat between their National Title game and NSD. I'm thinking Auburn hasn't put on the full-court press on Mouhon or McDowell yet.

I'm not making a prediction either way but don't fool yourself here. Lambert was a huge need and UT got played by Auburn.

I thought CBJ and this staff have been telling recruits from day one this season was going to be ugly and to expect the out come that did happen? Didn't Daniel Helm state that somewhere once?

Williams and Vereen at DE with Williams, Carr, and O'brien all taking reps at DT.

I think our dline play will be improved.

Explain "losing these recruits"..
We lost Lambert to auburn, who else are you referring to?

i thought auburn had a loaded roster before malzahn left and those same guys are still on the team.if that is the case why would McDowell and mouhon want to ride the bench down on the plains.

That is how I think it shakes up also.

Vereen/Williams didn't get a lot of PT due to Walls/Smith/Miller being healthy and ahead of them all year so hopefully they'll step up.

And we have 4 wildcard guys from the 2013 class at DE as well.

Hopefully between the 2013 remainders and Henderson/Hendrix we find some quality depth.

It was poorly worded. It was in the assumption that Auburn will gun for Mouhon/McDowell after their NCG and before NSD and flip them.

Again, poorly worded.

They're loaded at DL. LB and S are nowhere near as deep/talented.

If they can flip a 3-to-play-2 guy like Lambert with their DL depth/talent... to think about Mouhon and McDowell is pretty confidence wavering.

Yeah thats what I thought you meant.
I just don't see the logic in assuming auburn will cherry pick our class just because Lambert flipped. Chances are, both mouhon and McDowell both sign with the vols.
No need in creating panic where there's no reason whatsoever to be.

Current Auburn roster has 9 total LBs with 1 as a Senior (lack of depth wasn't an excuse for them, I guess) and 7 Safeties with 1 SR, 4 JRs and 2 FR.

And, at this point, 2014 Auburn class has 2 LBs and 0 Safeties committed.

Suffice to say, Mouhon and McDowell are positions of huge need for Auburn and those 2 will likely earn the full-court press. I hope UT can hang onto them.

I wasn't intending to create panic, troll, etc.

Just voicing an opinion that Auburn and UT both had huge jobs for both staffs to do. Auburn inherited a worse defense than UT did but with better DL talent. Garner is just a hell of a coach. He worked his magic, lets hope that ends there.

If Thig can keep a hold of those 2 4*s if Auburn puts a full-courter on both even though UT was 5-7 again and Auburn went to the NCG... he deserves to be the highest paid non-coordinator assistant in the nation.

Period.

even though lambert made a last second switch i think Tennessee will bring in someone else.

Do we waste a spot on a non-EE JUCO? I honestly don't think we do.

Do we go full burner for a FR? We have Hendrix and Cory Thomas coming in for SDE.Barnett and Mixon(EE) are in the air between SDE and DT.

Or do we just cut our losses and push for another position of need. Pull out all the stops for CB Jackson, OL Bookser/Knox and DE Williams?

I'd just cut my losses as they are. We needed an EE JUCO. We've lost that window now. We'd just be eating up space in a tight class with a guy we can only get 2 years out of.

I agree that Garner is one heck of a recruiter. Auburn definitely has a lot to sell right now, being in the title game again, having a coach who got it done as oc and now hc, being the hot team right now due to dethroning bama in such dramatic fashion.
However, thig is quite the recruiter himself. And the university of Tennessee has a lot to sell as well, even with our struggles of late. Here's to hoping for a great finish for the vols come signing day!
