saw 8 yesterday morning, no shooters. 3 bucks & 5 doe.

went out this afternoon. saw 3 doe. watched them for about 15 min. Got some great video of them. Another deer came in at dark & couldn't see him thru the brush. had to be a buck with the way he was acting, just don't know how big.

Were the bucks chasing yet? Still a little early, but they've started early before.

No not really. Couple spikes did take same path as the doe. They were def smelling them. Temps this week are gonna be warmer so it might put a halt to hunting for the week. We had to take out some frustration on a squirrel!!!

Wanted to post this here since it has to do with deer hunting. I'm going to be buying my son his first rifle (maybe) this spring. I'm looking at a youth model .243. The issue with that is he'll outgrow it. I have an AR in .223 so the recoil would be nothing for him. I've read articles on deer hunting with that caliber and have concerns myself. But does anyone have any personal experience with deer hunting with it.

Thanks in advance.

6.8 SPC for the win.

Just order the upper and BCG and slap it on your lower.

My only concern would be "hunting" bullets in that chambering seem pretty sparse. I know Federal makes a Fusion loading in that caliber and I think a couple places are loading TSX's which would be a good choice but I doubt you'd find much on the shelf.

I know a lot of people hunt deer with 60gr Partitions or TSX's in the heaviest load their twist allows in .223 as long as the ranges are reasonable.

I put in for the quota hunts in Tennessee and got drawn for Catoosa near Crossville. Anyone know of some good spots to check out?

Think there deer are starting to move in east Tennessee, even though the weather is warm. Should see some big movement this coming week with the temp dropping.

Hey guys,

Avid deer hunter here, hunted for the first time this year this weekend and watched the vols game on my phone from the deer stand. saw A lot of movement and a lot of small bucks but the big ones aren't on the does yet where I'm at here in West TN. Either way it was great just to get back into the woods. What is everyone else seeing? Bucks on does yet? I think this next week or so things should really start to heat up. Good luck to all of you this season and Go vols!

I'm more of a duck hunter, but I deer hunt some. The rut is going to be early this year. I know of several nice deer taken this weekend. The next 3 weeks it's going to be on like a pot of greens. Good luck.

I'll be there to with my Dad.
Heading up Wednesday to scout some. We are on Genesis side.
As for good places I couldn't tell you. Tuff hunting there for us. Killed two 8's in 14 years. See deer but not many legal bucks. Antler Restrictions are in place there.
Stop in at Region 3 office on Genesis exit and grab a map of the WMA. They have planted 88 fields this year. Heard some deer were killed in the fields in the evenings on the archery hunt couple weeks back. I avoid the fields because of so many hunters normally set up around them. I don't care much for crowds. Try and get deep away from others. The ice storm has made it very hard to get around. Due to downed timber. It's really thick and relatively flat in lots of areas unless you get around the river. Be sure to take a GPS or compass. Every direction looks the same. Easy to get turned around.
Good luck to you up there.

Thanks. I've hunted out of Peavine in the past. We're headed out Wednesday as well.
