2015 GA DB Duke Shelley Commits

5'8" is the reason we should pass. He's probably really 5'6" since they all exaggerate their height. I'm done with scat backs and small guys. We need size at every position, including DB.

He's 5'8" and 16 yrs old. Southern Miss had a DB that moved forward on defense each year by year from DB to LB and finished as a DT. These kids are still growing. It was anounced a few days ago that the EE's have put on 95 lbs. of muscle in only 1 month.

Except RB .... our's is way too tall, right?

If they thought enough about this guy to offer him then they should have accepted his commit. They get up upset if a player commits and then backs out of the commit so they should not offer and then back off of the offer. Double standard IMO.

That's never been how it works. Think about how many offers the top 300 players get from DivI schools .. 15, 20 .. more? Turn that around and think how many players each school has to offer early in the process to make those numbers. But this kid's always been a Boilermaker fan, and that kid picked Sparty, and that one's going to Bammer, and on and on .. all those schools making all those offers get culled by the high school kid, down to just a few. BOTH SIDES have big lists, they HAVE to, and each side culls according to their own needs, until the recruit 'commits' heh-heh yeah sure (so coach hopefully has Alternate Plan B, & even C&D ready. and then SIGNS the best group of players he can on NSD.

Congrats. I'm sure Butch will make room for this guy. Certainly is good to have 4 Star Recruits jumping on the Vols so early for a change.

Maybe not. Next years class will be very small. bUTch & staff are going to have to be very selective who they accept for what positions.

Tucker High School has one heck of a football program. Anybody you can get from there will only help you with future recruits from that school. Take him!!!! Willie Martinez is smart.

Sure seems like it. I mean we're not telling him "no" but we are telling him "maybe later."

I'm hoping that it's a "We want you to visit before committing so we know you're sure" but it's tough to tell.

Yup. Do an OV then we can both think on it and know better if it's right.

But with only room for 2 or 3 of each position in his class, I'm sure there are others out there the staff wants to look at. They will be selective.

Let me put it another way. Would you feel comfortable with this guy, at 5'8", covering M. North, Pearson, or Malone? If the answer is no or not sure, we don't want him.

If the coaches knew he had the skill set to play bigger then yes. If he is very fluid and plays the ball well then he is fine at that height. Will probably grow an inch or 2 anyway.

He is ranked in the top 200 on the new rivals. Lets jut go ahead and take him to boost our team rating :)

I'm guessing since we could sign so many this year, the numbers are much smaller for next years class. Therefore we can't just take in anybody, but turning down a 4* must mean these coaches have high expectations and know they can get some really really good talent in the 20 something commits we will have.

Ugo Armani is in the top 250 as well and is an in-state CB.

We are also in or near the lead for top 50 CB Garrett Taylor out of VA.

This very well could have been a commit Butch wanted to be silent so he can recruit those other two guys without us having any CB's committed yet.

I won't be surprised if Duke is a commitment sometime this summer officially.

Not to mention that you don't want to alienate the Tucker coaching staff. Lotsa big time prospects coming out of there. I'm sure CBJ will iron it out. Alienating high school coaches was that other guy's MO.
