2018 Recruiting Class

The good thing about these ladies committing and not dragging out the process is I guess money is not being wasted on official visits. FSU is stacking up nicely. They would have to try and keep up with ND and even Louisville.

We have two commits right now. The thing that sort of stinks is that our potentials have already said they are taking all their visits in the fall ... williams, decosta, odadda. So that is a waiting game as two are playing for USA basketball and the other is rehabbing still to try and play summer ball towards the end of summer. Have not heard much on Nixon or Scott-Grayson. But hopefully Westbrook (Decosta) and Collins (Scott-Grayson) can influence these young ladies a bit.

I think Annie Hayes can be a great recruiter with the other players in that class. While these incoming players may respect or look up to Russell/ Nared they want to see how the players they will play with are off the court. Also the incoming assistant will have to jump into the fire and build relationships with these athletes as well and pick up where the current coaches are.

Going to be interesting for sure.

You seem extremely knowledgeable on UT happenings ...

1. How are the freshman coming along? Who is looking like they can contribute immediately ?

2. Is Green progressing well? She looked like she could move pretty well in the video but just needs some conditioning ...

They are freshman. College and high school are completely different. That being said, Annie Hayes is FAST! She will contribute. Rennia is wowing the coaches, and progressing very well. KK is a post, and it always takes posts longer. Westbrook gets here next week.

Conditioning will be key for Green. She will be ready.

I understand all of the above and hear Green is STRONG. 💪🏻

I know freshman will be freshman but some freshman can make immediate impacts on different ways. Annie Hayes is an ATHLETE! Anyone who can practice part time because she isn't completely healthy and can be an All State athlete in the 400 METERS I coach track and field and that is a gut check race. She can go sub 60 which is good for a high school girl especially one who practices sparingly! I was impressed with the short clip of Rennia cutting to the basket only for her to finger roll the ball right over the rim! Looked like a DD type move. NO NO NO I'm not saying she will be DD but if she produces 18 a game her freshman year I won't complain (DD did it at UNC)... haha! KK I figured but she could provide 5-10 minutes of relief a game and grab rebounds and clog the lane I'll be happy. Westbrook has good court vision. I have been watching her old high school games on YouTube. While her shot needs work her cutting to the basket and competitiveness was awesome.

Great to hear about Green!

Gabby Crawford out of Munford TN has verballed to Alabama and HC Kristy Curry.

Jim

Dang that is a player I hoped we'd get to Tennessee. She is going to be a good college player. Bama was beating us with weaker talent now they are getting better talent.

I have to be thinking we have the inside track on some top players to be letting all these top Tennessee players go elsewhere. I have to believe Holly has some top talent ready to commit.

Everybody but Holly was on this kid for over a year now !!!! I felt like she was a Miss. State lean ? I think she already had more offers than some of the higher rated players in the state???? But that does not matter unless they are five stars and in all of the sports magazines.... it does not seem we are interested? There were six players in Tennessee rated in the top 55 for 2018 ! We took ONE and Vandy got two, Ky got one , Ga. Tech. One and W. Ky got one!!!!!! While we go after Nicoletti, Williams , Honesty Scott Grayson, etc. etc.

It seems we can only see players that have ten or twelve schools listed as an interest and we wait. and wait. At least we are in better shape than 2016!!!!
The only problem is there are only seven potential players coming back for 2018. That is if no one else leaves!!!!🙏

Keep thinking and believing and hopeing and dreaming. Maybe that will work for us ? I am more pessimistic since we cannot win the battle for players in state....... what makes anyone think we can get the top players out of other states ??🤔

Which means you think that we will wind up with both Williams and DeCosta.
I'm hopeful but doubtful that we get both.

I am hopeful as well, I think Kara is the X-factor in a sense. I am sure she has have conversations with them (off the record) about UT and what it has meant and done for her. I also know she's aware of how the program has dipped a little and as an alum and a LVFL member she would want nothing better to see these young ladies and UT return to where we should be. I also think With Te'a leaving it opened up a Guard spot in sense as MeMe Jackson would be a Senior when Williams arrives and Westbrook and Hayes and Massengil and all play on or off the ball. DeCosta wants to remain a wing and we are truly the only team offering her that (outside of Louisville where we know coach Waltz will say any and everything to land a recruit).

It will be really interesting but I sure hope we land them both!

That could be a problem? Baylor is doing better than us right now and a lot closer than Tennessee! (For Decosta and Williams)

I don't think Westbrook friendship with her will overcome this 3on3 European trip ????

Looks like Baylor maybe getting richer!

Baylor is also a Baptist University and is said to be very religion based and Williams has spoke a lot about wanting to attend a university that is very big on faith. They signed 3 guards last year (not that that says anything because Kim will run a player away in a heartbeat.)

Coach Reeves is a very spiritual woman herself (she has been taking the freshman to church with her on Sundays) which could help us with Williams if they were to attend a service during her visit.

What ranking system are you basing the players on? Offering players isn't always about rankings sometimes it's about team fit. Would some of the other players that went to the schools you mentioned have been great fits sure but would they just be another MeMe Jackson, Kortney Dunbar, Alex Fuller, no disrespect or would they be the Chamique Holdsclaw, Candace Parker, Tamika Catchings, or Glory Johnson's?

We've landed the top player (Hayes) from the state in 2017 and arguably the top player (Massengil) in 2018 after as some of you would say missing out on (but she was never interested in coming to UT) the top player in the state. (Dangerfield)

There are other players we are interested in that are not 5 stars but as with anything involving other making a decision you have to wait on the process.

Crawford plays 4/5 but was looking to play more 3/4 in college and we already received a verball commitment from MiMi Collins who would play some 4/3 in a pinch and are waiting for DeCosta to also play the 3/4 in a pinch both are better players than Crawford imo so do you pass on both of them if they are interested for the local kids who although a good player isn't the player that could get you over the hump?

Will Mulkey guarantee that the football players won't attack them on campus? 😈

Hey Raider!

Any word on if we are still interested in Jessika Carter, the 6'4" Post out of Georgia?

Are you saying DeCosta would not come if we took a local player at her position?? Crawford is a three star ??? Surely she is not afraid of that competition!

Your explanation is very good . I guess I am stuck in 2016 debacle? I just keep seeing top programs taking Three Star recruits and we don't get many!
You need roll players and all of the local gals all must want to start somewhere else? Just saying

Explanation accepted..... just hope we can get some more players ????

There are several players in the top 60 that have no schools listed on espn. I would hate for us to gamble and wait on just top tier recruits and miss out come early signing.
