This may be a dumb question, but do these guys that get drafted and signed have to wait until next baseball to start playing or do they go immediately into the farm leagues for the remainder of this season?

You are correct, I figured hitting the VN Easy button would get the answer.

This year, the deadline is July 12 at 5 p.m. ET. Most draftees will sign well before that deadline, but by the evening of July 12 every team and every college will know which players are going to school and which players are going pro.
