*****2020 Early Signing Day Thread Tracker (19)

Good recruiting class. Beat (or be competitive) vs the Aggies. Win a bowl game. Get extra reps and practice for the young Vols and set the stage for next year. Pruitt will be back next year, but we need to make the best of it. New QB and maturation of young players and new comers give me a glimmer of hope. We were a couple of pick 6s and QB turnovers from having a much better season.
Love the positivity! Haven't been in the forum in a hot minute. All the negativity is quite depressing. I'm just glad there was football to tell you the truth. Excited to get 2020 over with & move on.

Quit putting words in my mouth... I did not compare and contrast the two points, just pointing out that this recruit was impacted per a a guy that speaks directly to them and he said the fan stuff was an impact. the more conservative branch of the fan base gets tired of the rhetoric that it does not have or should not have impact on recruits. Just trying to limit their responsibility for some of these loses. It is POSSIBLE IF NOT PROBABLE that a networking effect among recruits has others not pull the trigger as well.
I used to believe what you believe. I did. And I was wrong as are you. Fan unrest is a product of poor performance... but the poor performance is enough regardless of fan passion or apathy. If fan noise is the tipping point.... there are already too many problems impacting recruiting.

Considering all the negative vibes going around, this was a decent haul.

What is discouraging is the fact we are still being outrecruited by 5 SEC teams. We can only catch up by out coaching the others. Will that every happen?

We need significantly improved recruiting and coaching to become competitive again.
This has been a concern of mine for a while. CJP has a reputation of being a defensive guru, but his track record dating back to his HC coaching days show that he may have been out talenting opponents. He’s has done nothing but struggle with comparable talented teams since he’s been here, so I don’t expect him to all of a sudden start beating the top teams if our talent level reaches theirs’

I for one agree with this. I've seen what happens when Tennessee recruits 5* OLs. They end up trash and either not coached well or not able to play SEC football.
IMHO, it is because OL's are so difficult for the recruiting sites to evaluate. They almost never play against athletes that challenge them in HS. DLs are the same to a lesser degree.

I think Mizzou has done a pretty good job over the years of recruiting 3* and below players and building them into good OL's that play well together. Some of those guys show up at around 250 lbs and end up playing at 300. They seldom have guys drafted but I would have traded with them in most of the last 6-8 years.

If you are 6'5", 310 and are NOT mauling the 220-250 lb guys you play most weeks... then you've got issues.

I'll repeat. I think this is a good start considering the serious questions about Pruitt's future at UT... and not because fans are restless. He hasn't performed well.

The only concern I see is the lack of DL's.

We got two edge rushers and a DT.

Butch was a good recruiter (car salesman?) but was a terrible player developer and had problems as a game time coach. I thought Pruitt would combine all three traits. He still may. But this year, he got out coached and many players didn't appear to get better. And, what happened to our vaunted O-Line? With that said, I see next year as critical to whether he stays or goes. Hopefully, we'll have a full season for a good evaluation. I'm certainly rooting for him.

I wouldn't say out coached. He refused to pull the trigger on the one mot important decision he needed to make this year until it no longer mattered.

The Qb decision follows under the “outcoached” umbrella IMO. There are a few other questionable in game decisions Pruitt had made that demonstrate he is in over his head. The FG decision and his response to it is another prime example.

However, there are a number of, so called, fans who post on here and would post negative comments even if we win 10 games next year. We didn’t beat the spread, we didn’t play the 3rd string QB enough, we miss a tackle and the running back gained an extra 3 yards, we missed a 50 yard field goal, the top rated player who’s family moved to Tennessee but signed with OSU, etc. Usually the crowd at the games are solid fans and support the team, coaching staff, and the University. However, it only takes one rotten potato to spoil the entire bushel.

Agree... but if that moves a recruit then the recruit didn't want to come.

Are you counting the LB's as edge rushers? You have to like Evans but one isn't enough at a position that's already questionable and losing players to graduation. I suppose they could be planning on some of the Sr's coming back for the extra year?

You can check me but I only see 5 non-senior DL's on the current roster. I'm guessing you'd want at least 9 on your roster not counting the OLB's.

Brooks and Young end rushers. Evans DT.

That was part of his bad coaching decisions. But, when you come out continuously and get blasted in the second half, that's bad coaching.

Let me understand, are you saying no matter what a poster or a group of posters put out on a website that demeans a coach, that zero prospects, zero coaches, and zero parents involved in the decision path are impacted. I just do not believe in a close race it is not a factor. No way to prove that one way or the other I guess. If I was involved with a prospect, I would get on as many sites as I could afford to gather facts about the programs in the short list.

Two (2) from the state of Tennessee. No players at all from the 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A state championship teams. I saw some really good players in all those games. I don't give a damn if they have any of these magical stars by their names or not. They were a lot of very good players. The 6A state champions could lay a whipping on this years UT team.
