2020 Target List

have been putting this together over the past couple months and didn’t plan to post until next spring but given the rule changes allowing juniors to now OV and the fact Tennessee seems done for the 2019 (at least for now) figured I would go ahead with it.

These are the guys currently with offers, as things stand right now tennessee will have room to sign at least 4 (Bone, Turner, Bowden, Williams). All rankings are per Rivals, if no Rivals ranking then will use 247 national ranking indicated by *:

#19 Walker Kessler
#29 Corey Walker Jr.- committed
#34 Keon Johnson

If they land Cone for 2019 I think focus will be on Springer, Johnson, Ruzhentsev and Hall heading into fall official visits. With room for only 2 and possibly 3 I think you’ll only see them heavily pursue 3-4 guys.

Isn't there another Walker, a center I believe. I think we were trying to get him to reclassify to 19 class.

According to a recent article on 247, we're also in on a guy named Bryce Thompson (not the current UT football player lol). He's a four-star SG from Oklahoma.

Bleed, I know Barnes and Company are visiting Matt Murrell in Memphis soon. What are your thoughts on them offering or is it a "feel him out" visit? Also, how many guards would the Vols take in 2020?

Murrell seems to be behind Springer, Johnson, Stone, and possibly Ruzhentsev in the pecking order at the SG position, alone. Now, you could make a case that Springer and Stone could play PG and Johnson and Ruzhentsev could play SF, but I think the staff will see how things shake out with those four first. PJ Hall seems to be the priority post player, right now.

He already holds a Tennessee offer.

Assuming they land Cone (not a given), they in theory only have room for 2 in the fall, unless someone else departs prior to the season starting. I am guessing they’re willing to fill both spots with guards, I think you’ll see them prioritize Johnson and Springer but I’m not sure you’ll see them “hold off” Ruzhentsev or Murrell, both guys are likely headed for Top 50 rankings.

I get the feeling Stone isn’t high on the board, not necessarily that coaches don’t like him but he hasn’t seem to be nearly as interested in the others mentioned, I wouldn’t be surprised if they cool on him.

As far as PJ Hall goes, who would you compare him to as far as possible impact as a post player?

I would agree. His interest in Tennessee hasn't seemed to be near that of the others. All things being equal though, I think he is preferred over Murrell at this point. Like you said though, more interest from Murrell than Stone at this point.

A bit of a lazy comparison, but he has a Kevin Love type game, though not as tall, obviously. He has range out to the 3-pt line, but is plenty physical enough in the paint as well. Scrappy, as well.

Thanks for the comparison. Let's get him!

Idk, staff has reportedly been in to see Murrell multiple times, not sure they’ve been in to see Stone at all of late.

Possibly due to the level of reciprocated interest. Seems I read that Barnes had watched Stone recently, but I can't find the article now. In any case, Murrell has definitely shown more interest, so the staff has most likely gravitated towards him as a result. Stone is the more talented player, IMO.

I think both end up very similarly ranked fwiw

Walker and johnson went down ?

With English's connections in Baltimore and D.C., maybe the staff lands a Kevin Durant type player in the future.

I don’t think we will be any more likely to find a KD type player in Baltimore or DC than anywhere else

He’s probably the best overall scorer the game has ever seen, he’s an ultimate Anomaly
