2021 Lady Vol Recruiting Thread

I have no specific comments about Lady Vols recruiting. Just a general observation about some things. Don't fret over ratings because they are often times, not always (especially for truly elite players) off. I like Prospects Nation final post-All Star rankings. But their preseason ratings are kind of suspect and have a "tail wags the dog" element seen in ND, Alabama, USC, Michigan football recruiting in the late 1980's and early 90's. Having watched a lot of the FIBA Under 16 games there is no way Amari Deberry is the #1 prospect in New Jersey at this point. She's a project with athleticism. There is absolutely no way Saylor Poffenbarger is top 6 over the likes of Verhulst or Citron. It's the UConn factor. And I know that this forum has posters that rush to these types of posts like worker termites to a breach in the hive. But its not something UConn fans on The Boneyard didn't notice. Especially in regard to the ludicrous Deberry vs Breanna Stewart comparisons. It's no fault of the young ladies. They don't rate themselves. But keep in perspective these things are less reliable than football ratings.

I agree, but if she only gets 5 minutes a game, she could set out a year and be a starter her senior year and play 25 to 30 minutes.
I agree. I hope she redshirts. I think Kellie wanted to redshirt her this year, but roster limitations kept her from doing so. Emily seems to be a late bloomer and could be a massive force for us and an easy transition away from Key

Sara, Teonni, Saniya, come on over and join the party.

Coach, or anyone else.....A month or so ago, there was a high school guard that was generating a lot of talk on VN....One of the things I remember about her was she had quotes about wanting to dunk the ball someday....She was able to touch the rim now, and either her coach, or trainer, said she would be able to fairly soon....She had also had an earlier ACL injury too.

Does anyone remember this girl?

I had just found her data back in the old views....

Looks like she is still not found a home.

With Striplin and Wynn committed the players I am looking for are Key and Puckett. Those were the four I felt the best about and still hope to see committed.

What about a PG and a big for the class. While Striplin can play the 5 she has called herself a versatile forward many times which means she will play and mix it up in the post. I think we will see her like a European post will bang under the basket but will hit a 3 pt in your eye as well.

I am loving the addition of Wynn with Striplin looks like we are heading towards a top 10 class. I would love Raven Johnson or Brooklyn Miles at PG.

I know it’s been said a class of 4 is likely but if the right mix of 5 come along Kellie will sign them. Although a long shot if Rivers wants to come with that class I think you say yes 😃

A class of a PG, Wynn, Rivers, Key/Puckett, and Striplin would be top 5 I would think and make me happy though 😃

I think Emily’s development into a serviceable center will determines this teams need for a big.

Looking forward if we did stock up on perimeter players like I said above what do you do about kids like Karly weathers and Ace Strickland? Great instate kids but would we be able to offer them playing time🤔

We need a point guard but I haven't see any that are really leaning our way more than they are any other team. Wynn can play there and we are starting to recruit some other point guards other than the original list. Of course we need one I just haven't seen any of the ones on the board leaning our way.

Striplin is a post to come in for Green. Key and Saunders will be juniors. I think Rodirguez is more of a stretch four. I don't see us taking another post other than Striplin unless the two players left on our board that are post players decide on Tennessee. We could go the grad transfer route again that season if none of the players were seeking decide to go elsewhere. I'm really looking for us to go more to a one post type offense in the future with the four being just as versatile as the three and two. Puckett is also an inside out player as is Key and I think that is going to be the type of players this staff will recruit in the future.
