I won't get into specifics
but
I will say that there are 3 spots open at this time to a count of 13 for 2021
-I believe one will be held for TK until she decides and one of the other spots will be filled by another big
-We have a guard and 3 forwards this year and a guard and a forward already secured for next year
-our newcomers can stretch the defense with their shooting, so another stretch-forward isn't on the table
-That leaves one definite guard spot, for either a PG or combo guard
If I can surmise this, they can.

Very good analysis, and I agree that within a reasonable time frame a spot is reserved for Teonni. She is prized and I think she takes her time ...though we would all relax a little if she went ahead and picked Tennessee. Or not. Fingers crossed.

I don’t know if we disagree or perhaps I’m confused (as always) ...but I think Coach Kellie would take Sara Puckett, even if she gets Key, and even if we get a guard/point guard. Puckett just appears to fit the Kellie prototype that you, and I, and in fact most of us are starting to see. She named her final three, right?

Meanwhile, is Breanne Salenbien off the list? I think I read that she might have eliminated us, or vice versa. She tore her ACL in late season. She and Puckett are near clones with their extreme length, range, and at 6’2” - 6’3” both handle like point guards.

This week, huh?

Haven't heard anything re Salenbien at all.

I'm feeling that someone's gonna jump very soon...if not this week then soon,,,,9 girls for potentially 3 spots.
Based upon my analysis, two will need to be bigs
That is why I am thinking guards, tho a Big may surprise us.

I have the same feeling regarding Sara. Really would like to get Teonni on board as well. They will be a dagger to the heart from the high post and wing.

If I were a D1 coach right now I'd look to fill my roster to the maximum number allowed from here on out. I *might* consider leaving one spot open in case an unexpected player decides she wants to transfer in.

13 is the perfect number
when you have 8 sitting on your bench you have 4-5 immediate subs, a couple of project players and an injury safety net.
More than that and you have a crowd and players who feel they will never get in there.

Coach, you keep commenting on a roster of 13. Is that because you think that is a good roster size? You do realize that the women's team can have 15 players on scholarship?

Jim
I do, I also know the feelings of the players when there are 10 on the bench,,,it opens the door for dissension for players who think they'll never get PT

The natural thought process of a coach is to put 15 into 3 groups of five and when we do that we get locked into tiers instead of subs

I know that Pat, for many years, liked to keep a roster of around 12 players for that very reason. After several seasons in a row where the team suffered the loss of significant player(s) to season ending injury, she stated that she was rethinking that philosophy and started to look to fill the roster. Given what seems to be the increased occurrence of season ending injuries and the negative impact that the transfer portal can have (as the Lady Vols have so recently seen) in the short term, maintaining a roster of 15 players who have had a chance to become familiar with your coaching style and the team dynamics seems to be becoming a more reasonable idea, if not a necessity! Just my opinion.

Jim

I think our last 3 spots will go to :
Key
Puckett
The last spot will go to one of Miles/Wiggins/Post player that commits first with Miles being the priority at PG.

What about a player like Emily and to a lesser extent Jessie
Emily got 81 total minutes, in only 10 of 31 games...that is 2.64 min pg.

If Coach K carries 15 and tries to doll out PT for them, we're talking messed-up-city
10 players averaged double minutes and if Coach K tries to do that this season, unless everything clicks, not good!
In the cupcake stage, yes, but in SEC play 8 deep with deep bench in blowouts or big leads is the way we have to do it.

Yes, if a couple of injuries happen it is a good thing to have extra, but that is not the norm,,,usually only one season injury type happens and if that occurs, then 13 is plenty.

Coach K may have a different philosophy and if she does, ok...But for this coach, 13 is my number

Plus there is room for another "right" player

I agree, although I kind of want a 6-pack.
I think Miles will commit next, followed by Puckett and TK.
I really want Hollingshead also.
