The "Team A or B has the number 4 or 5 recruiting class" works in football. It works in MBB if you retain the class to their Jr. or Sr. while those ranked ahead of them go pro or transfer. It's absolute pyrite for WBB. Not only are rankings for high school girls players even more suspect than in other sports but team rankings are insignificant. It's about who recruits impact players. There are only about 4 or 5 of those each year in WBB recruiting. The #15, 25, 45 and 55 players would get a school a lofty ranking. But if UConn were to follow Paige Bueckers with Azzi Fudd and Notre Dame were to follow Miles and Citron with Ayanna Patterson they are going to compete for Final Fours. The 2015 Hoopgurlz rankings which had Duke(1) and Louisville's(2) 5 players rated ahead of UConn's 3 and Notre Dames 3 are a prime example.
UConn added Katie Lou Samuelson and a much underrated Napheesa Collier to Breanna Stewart and Morgan Tuck. Notre Dame added Arike Ogunbowale and Mabrey to Brianna Turner. Then came Jackie Young. UCLA, South Carolina and Duke were 1, 2,3 in 2014.
The Lady Vols have to sign more Jordan Horston's. You can prattle on about the 3 top 100 players starting in the 20's being "ranked" ahead of a team with only two which are in the top 20 or top 15. But you're not going to beat that team on the court unless they're coached by a Karen Aston.
