2021 SEC Tournament

Not real wild about seeing UF again. Having this tournament is stupid.

Just my opinion however I’d rather see Tennessee play Florida (right now) than KY or Mississippi....probably even over Missouri.

If we beat Florida in the quarterfinals on Friday, we will most likely face either Alabama or Kentucky (probably bama) in the semis. How do we feel about this matchup? For the rest of the quarterfinals, Arkansas most likely plays Missouri, and LSU most likely sees Ole Miss. Personally satisfied with our side of the bracket as Arkansas has won 11 of last 12, and LSU has our number.

*also, will Tre Mann be back? They said he missed yesterday because of migraines

TN has never been to 3 consecutive finals. Actually the 2 year streak only happened once before, 1936-37. Of course there was a 27 year break until 1979 when Devoe got the double bye (along with LSU) in the 10 team league and won both games for the championship. TN only had to beat Auburn (playing in their 3rd straight game) and KY playing in their 4th straight game.

I was trying to remember if Pearl made a SECT Final but he did I believe, 2009 against Miss State and Jarvis Varnado

I understand your point but at some point we have to move forward and live life. The players and coaches want to play.

The SEC had a successful season imo and will continue to be cautious before, during and after the tourney to keep everyone safe.

A couple of mid major conferences already played their tourneys without any covid outbreaks. That could change tomorrow or during SEC tourney but it could occur during March Madness.
Right on! Play the games and let the chips fall where they may.

I would LOVE another Tennessee vs. Alabama game. Win or lose, it would make things interesting. The pre-season favorite vs. the conference champs. The shoe would be on the other foot.

TN has been to 5 finals since the SECT restarted in 1979:

1979-Devoe (2-0)
1991-Houston (3-1)
2009-Pearl (2-1)
2018-Barnes (2-1)
2019-Barnes (2-1)

TGO is this right. We beat UK in the 1st SECT when it was restarted, right? Never since.

I wish it were cancelled btw, and we'd get 3 more OOC games.

Yes. Beat KY for the 3rd time in Devoe’s first year. But it was TN’s 2nd game and KY’s 4th in 4 days. Weird setup in 1979. 2 teams (TN and LSU) had double byes and the other 8 teams had 2 games before the semis.

The SEC gets no respect in the national media, but it is always a deep league. The teams that play 3 or 4 games in the SECT get the hell beaten out of them by each other. It’s always a very physical league. And then a lot of the NCAAT Cinderellas are soft and get away with finesse games (upsets which draw viewers). Ditching the SECT would help a lot in the SEC’s NCAAT runs.

Edit:. Nvm. I'm reading bakkards. Devoe was undefeated not winless.

Well, TN beat KY in the semis of the last SECT. But the last time that TN won the SECT was in 1979, Devoe’s first year. They beat KY for the 3rd time that year in the finals.

From a fan's point of view, the safest thing for Tennessee would be to wait and not play again until the Final Four.

Seriously though, it's interesting to wonder... would Vol fans rather see this team play more games, or play fewer games later?

Interesting take, but this team needs the SEC tourney. They just came off a solid win against UF. Now, they can either build off of it or do the same ol same ol and look flat the next time out. I could buy this team doesnt need the SEC tourney if it had been playing well, but imo it needs it as a confidence builder. Beat UF again, then either beat UK or play Bama close as hell and give them a boost heading into the tournament.

Ah, but the SEC would make less money, especially with the big bucks the TV docs would pay.

Why did Pearl suck in the SEC tourney at Tennessee? That has always baffled me.
Because he coached at Tennessee? We've always sucked in the SEC tournament (or we had at that point anyways). From 1992 to 2007 we never even managed to get past the quarterfinals. In at least 3 of those years, getting past the quarterfinals would have required winning just 1 game. At least Pearl got us over that hump.

I don’t know if this true but I think we lost in the SECT as the higher seed under Pearl every year except the last
Last 2 years we lost to higher rated teams. 2010 we got curb stomped by Kentucky who was top 2 or 3 in the country.
