I get it, and while it would be fun I also enjoy having some guys who stick around more than one year...recent history has actually suggested you’re likely to win bigger with those guys than just a bunch of one and doner’s.

Who knows, but I doubt Tennessee went months without conversing and picked up the phone and completely changed his mind in just a week or two. I would venture to guess there has been a lot more communication between the 2 sides than just about anyone thought.

No, not meaning to insinuate that we just made a cold call and got things rolling after months of zero communication. Just that by his own admission we weren't making him a priority and he was ready to commit in mid-August. Something changed to put us in the position we're supposedly in now, and the timing and situation of Banchero's commitment is an easy choice to fit in that space.

I’m not naive. I’ve always thought the chances of landing a 2nd Top 10 player was slim to none. This class will still be great, although maybe not 2020 levels, but damn if I’m not going to have fun with the rampant speculation until I no longer can tell myself otherwise.

Definitely seems likely, never stated otherwise, just seems like more evidence that he was likely much more of a target than many/all seemed to realize...he was someone clearly the staff stayed in touch with.

Assuming they land Mashack and Mutombo to go along with Chandler...if they land just 1 of Smith/Bediako/Houston/Etienne/Holmes theN the 2021 class would have a higher score than the 2020 class.

So, Chandler is in, Mashack seems like a Vols lock and UT is now considered the favorite for Motombo. Hell, I'll take it, grin and brag about it.

Kennedy Chandler is boys with Mashack (done deal) and Jabari Smith. Banchero commits to Duke, so now we really need a big man. Mutombo looks like it’s only a matter of time to UT. Mutombo and Jabari Smith live 20 minutes from each other...and just Tuesday Rob Lewis said we lead/leader (however you interpret) for Jabari.

Are u saying UT ends up with Chandler, Mashack, Motombo and Smith ? Because if u are right, I am going to need an hour shower

This is so crazy to me. We did not have a single top 100 recruit on our 2019 team and we still were among the elite. Now we are recruiting Top 70 and Top 50 guys and my initial reaction was "that's cool but Banchero...". These type of guys coming to UT shows me that Barnes is going to make UT nationally relevant for awhile. Mashack (from California) and Mutombo (son of NBA legend) coming to UT also shows me how powerful of a brand we are nationally in basketball.

The “minimum” is 3. Keon hasn’t played a minute yet. 4 is highly possible but not certain. I think that 5 is a reach without running somebody off or JS and KJ carrying TN to a Final Four.

Jabari Smith and Ryan Mutumbo are the likely priority targets right now. It's anyone's guess after that though.

Do we get Mutombo in the next week or two? I assume we would be done at Center...Then, we go all in on Smith? If we get those two, are we done with this list? Thoughts?

I agree and from everything I've read lately, Motombo is a lock. If that's true and Motombo and Smith's friendship is also true, I would be ecstatic to finish up this class with those 2 kids. It's also very realistic
