Who knows, but I doubt Tennessee went months without conversing and picked up the phone and completely changed his mind in just a week or two. I would venture to guess there has been a lot more communication between the 2 sides than just about anyone thought.I was able to find the article where his supposed top 3 (Georgetown, Georgia, and Stanford) was listed, and it was based on more assumption than an official released top 3. Mutombo told Tipton Edits that he was being prioritized by those three schools on August 13th, and CasualHoya took that to mean it was his top 3. He (Mutombo) also stated on Instagram that he was ..."about to commit very soon...My recruitment is over" on August 16th. So, while it did involve some assumption, I can see where someone may arrive at that conclusion.
Banchero committed on August 20th, so either a lot was going on behind the scenes with Tennessee and Mutombo, and Mutombo lied when discussing who was prioritizing him, or things turned quickly after the Banchero commitment, Tennessee immediately made RM a priority, and he got comfortable with them rather quickly.
No, not meaning to insinuate that we just made a cold call and got things rolling after months of zero communication. Just that by his own admission we weren't making him a priority and he was ready to commit in mid-August. Something changed to put us in the position we're supposedly in now, and the timing and situation of Banchero's commitment is an easy choice to fit in that space.Who knows, but I doubt Tennessee went months without conversing and picked up the phone and completely changed his mind in just a week or two. Not gonna lie when we got future casts to him right now I was like dangit what about bediako and Jabari haha
Definitely seems likely, never stated otherwise, just seems like more evidence that he was likely much more of a target than many/all seemed to realize...he was someone clearly the staff stayed in touch with. No, not meaning to insinuate that we just made a cold call and got things rolling after months of zero communication. I’m not naive. I’ve always thought the chances of landing a 2nd Top 10 player was slim to none. This class will still be great, although maybe not 2020 levels, but damn if I’m not going to have fun with the rampant speculation until I no longer can tell myself otherwise.
Are u saying UT ends up with Chandler, Mashack, Motombo and Smith ? Because if u are right, I am going to need an hour showerKennedy Chandler is boys with Mashack (done deal) and Jabari Smith. Banchero commits to Duke, so now we really need a big man. Mutombo looks like it’s only a matter of time to UT. Mutombo and Jabari Smith live 20 minutes from each other...and just Tuesday Rob Lewis said we lead/leader (however you interpret) for Jabari.
TN loses Fulky, Pons, Anosike, Keon ( will be 1 and done) and possilby Springer. We will have at a minimum 4 scholarships available. Most likely will be 5. Who knows if anyone will transfer
Updated board...

#9 Caleb Houstan (6’8” SF)
#10 Kennedy Chandler (6'1" PG)-COMMITTED
#22 Charles Bediako (6'11" C)
#30 Daron Holmes ll (6’8” PF)
#48 Jahmai Mashack (6’4” SG)-COMMITTED
#50 Micawber Etienne (6'10" C)
#87 Ryan Mutombo (7’ C)
I agree and from everything I've read lately, Motombo is a lock. If that's true and Motombo and Smith's friendship is also true, I would be ecstatic to finish up this class with those 2 kids. It's also very realisticJabari Smith and Ryan Mutumbo are the likely priority targets right now. It's anyone's guess after that though.
