2021 Target List

Not announcing until next spring isn't ideal, but glad we made the cut. Can't remember who was cut from his top 10, but seems like Memphis was in there, and maybe Georgia Tech(?).

Edit: Willy got it

He didn't explicitly say he is only going to announce next spring. He certainly made it sound like that was the most likely scenario, but he did say in his quote that he would be willing to commit in the fall if it felt right. He just won't do it once the season starts.

Yeah, I saw that, but it certainly seemed like his preference was spring, which is why I mentioned it.

I hope that both Chandler and Banchero are in good places financially. That half million dollar incentive from the new NBA development program could be difficult to counter with a scholarship.

Chandler’s father has already said he’s playing in college.

Banchero did an interview with Rivals that was posted today and he said he'd look into it if the G league came calling, but admitted to wanting the experience of being in college for a year.

Man, if UT gets one of those 3, I will be ecstatic. But, for some reason, I really want Jabari Smith, especially if Keon and JJJ come back

That would be the #1 class by far next year. Could be 3 top 10 players when all said and done .
If you use the class calculator a class of those 3 would actually rank #5 in the 2020 team rankings behind Tennessee’s 2020 class. You get rewarded for signing more players, so while we would likely have the best average rating per player, a class of 3 is not likely at all to finish #1.

Same here. I still don’t understand throwing that much money at young players just for them to play some games in the G-league. Will they be televised games?

A part of me doesn’t like the idea of signing guys that are likely one and done. Or maybe we get two years out of them. I like having a team that develops and you get to know. I like Admiral Scofield a lot more than Tobias Harris. It seems like Tobias wasn’t really even here. I would rather be a Gonzaga than a Kentucky but I guess with relaxed rules for transfers and the graduate rules we better get used to players coming and going every year or two.

I agree with you...I would like to see a nice blend...Plavsic, Bailey, Vescovi, Gaines, ORN and Pember all seem like they aren’t threats to leave early. James is here at least another year or two it would seem, Johnson and Springer have a chance to go early but I think Walker is likely here at least a few years if not all 4.

sheesh, two top 5 players and a top 15 player wouldn’t be top 3 at least ?

Small investment for the NBA in order to give these young players better coaching and training than they would get in college

Is the G-league better at developing than top tier college basketball schools? I always saw it as a state of limbo for guys just trying to get noticed rather than something like the MLB minor leagues. I don’t know though, I’m not very familiar with it.

I don't know for sure, but I think G League would be considered better than the vast majority of NCAA programs. Duke is an obvious exception with coach K, but a year in G League will serve the individual player better for the NBA as opposed to a year in college.

Those are my thoughts anyway....

Kennedy Chandlers top 5: UT, Duke, NC, Memphis, and Kentucky

So basically us and all the blue bloods

Memphis is not a blueblood. Historically, Memphis is better than Tennessee. But in today’s modern era of college basketball, Memphis and Tennessee are both in the same tier.
