…and there it is, the kick in the pants to any season ticket holder in both football and men’s basketball. I’m not grandfathered and pay my share, but that message to so many football ticket holders having a reduction in cost was bogus if you also have basketball tickets. I’m likely looking at a combined 50% increase to keep tickets to both sports.

Good god next season if I were to keep my football and basketball seats it would cost me over $21,000. Feels weird to be completely squeezed out like this. I know I’m not alone. We’ll see how it pans out for them but I’m done w it
But wait, I thought this was all a measure to enhance fan experience and to reduce the price of going to the game for the common fan? 🤔

You mean to tell me that the university and the athletic department was going to make more money as a result of these changes. I can't believe it.

In PR school, the #1 thing you learn is to say it’s for “improved customer experience”. The airlines do it all the time.

The hammer just got dropped for many of us. Not sure how many people really can afford this kind of hit.

It’s weird considering how awful we’ve been in football and I’ve continued to support them. And now this. bye!

I’m probably out as well. I can buy a really fancy TV every year for what they are squeezing us in their new seating plan. FB and BB tickets been in the family since the 1960s. I might grab the $250 cheap seats for basketball. Could also buy a nice boat to tie up for football games and just enjoy the game day party.

I’ll be curious to hear more on basketball, but the numbers that came out for football we’re that ticket pricing would go down/stay the same for over 50% of current ticket holders. It sucks for those that it’s going up for, but if you’ve been getting to go to games for 30+ years at $200/yr. then you should probably consider yourselves pretty lucky.

I just don't see how people can afford that given the cost of living these days. I'd love to know where the money comes from.

Looks like they are putting the student section behind both goals now?? That is the opposite of what I was going to hope to happen. I would rather them put the student section on the sides like Dukes.
I like the move of putting students at both goals. Given the size of our stadium and recent success, it's painfully quiet during basketball games too often.

In my opinion, it feels like for every one step forward Danny White takes in the eyes of the fanbase, he makes a decision that just launches him two steps backwards. I'm not quite sure how to feel about this guy.

My family has had the same football season tickets for 30 years. My father was notified a few weeks back that in order to keep his tickets, he'd have to make a donation to the university. He didn't tell me how much they asked for. I didn't press him on it because it's not my business, but he was pretty perturbed about it so I can only guess it wasn't a cheap request.

We've been loyal fans to the university through decades of mediocrity and poor football, and now we might lose seats that I have had since I was a small child. Needless to say, it bothers me quite a bit. And it makes me FAR less likely to spend money on the university when it doesn't feel like they actually care about the product their putting out there, just the bottom line they get in return.

Danny White better produce some championships in some sports, or pumping the fanbase for every penny they have isn't going to sit well for very long.

He’s now charging your father the same price as a new fan would be charged for those same seats, that’s the deal. There were a bunch of seats, apparently your fathers being one of them, getting away with no donation…where as a new fan wanting season tickets sitting next to him would be required to donate maybe a couple thousand dollars. The move is to make the cost of season tickets fair to everyone, new or old, and in doing so increase the amount of revenue brought in.

White is going to piss of those who haven’t had to make a donation, or make a small one, who have been getting away “cheap” for years, at the expense of hoping to bring in a newer/younger fan base. Only time will tell if that’s the right strategy or not, but for a person interested in season tickets the price is now less than it was a year ago for the same exact seats.

$500 for side court upper deck is pretty reasonable…you get what, ~20 home games? So $25/ticket for what are pretty good seats? Most years you can recoup about 25% of that by selling your Kentucky game ticket.

I can understand the equity argument, but I'm not sure I necessarily agree with it. As you said, we'll see in the future if it's an effective model, but I don't think the best strategy is to "devalue" your loyal customers in hopes of bringing in new customers. It's unlikely my father renews his seats, as we were already paying a pretty penny for lower bowl seats in the first place, so I guess my tenure of going to Tennessee football games in person is about to come to an end. Good for those who can now get "fair pricing" or whatever the PR reason is for doing it. But, it's definitely souring me on the university. Too many fond memories growing up of those Saturday's on the Hill that I was hoping to pass down to my kids one day when my father decided to give the seats up to me. Guess that's not in the cards anymore though.

I get you’re sour and I’m sure many are, but it was going to end with you anyways as from what I understand it was allowed to be passed only once…so your children you were hoping to pass it to were going to lose it regardless. As I said, if your father chooses to give his up Danny White’s hope is that someone new comes in there and scoops them up for a cheaper price than they could’ve gotten them for last year, and that some new father is looking to create memories with his son.

I'm not sure the grandfathering pertained to football season tickets.

And the reason people like his father are agitated is because for the better part of two decades, they have loyally purchased season tickets to watch a pretty sorry football team take the field and helped keep the athletic department in the black while it pisses away millions of dollars in buyouts to failed coaches and ADS.

Now, they want you not only to continue to purchase thise tickets, but also pony up a donation for the rights to purchase them? Neyland Stadium isn't selling out, as is. And the excuse that it brings them in line with the newer season ticket holders is BS. Thise new season ticket holders didn't crap away thousands of dollars over the last 15 years to watch a terrible product on the field. Paying to go to games during that time WAS THE DONATION. There have been many, many times in recent years where you couldn't give tickets away to people.

The bottom line is that this course of action is grossly misplaced and untimely. If we were continually 9-3, or better on occasion, and ticket demand was high, this is a better-received decision, or at least better-understood (supply vs demand). Right now, though, the fans who have kept Neyland from looking like Vanderbilt Stadium over the last several years feel like their loyalty isn't being rewarded, and justifiably so.
