I agree with this but "visibly impair" the throw is quite subjective. An ump can make that case if the runner is in fair territory. What I don't understand is how he can possibly touch the 1B bag if he's not in fair territoryHe didn’t impair the throw though. The runner did absolutely nothing wrong in that situation. You can’t reward a team for poor positioning and an inaccurate throw.
You can’t touch it without being in fair territory. Physically impossible.I agree with this but "visibly impair" the throw is quite subjective. An ump can make that case if the runner is in fair territory. What I don't understand is how he can possibly touch the 1B bag if he's not in fair territory
It looks like the runner makes contact literally directly on top of of the center of the base. Not sure what his options are, especially considering the guy covering the bay is standing in foul territory initially. Horrible call. This rule is BS:
1. Running lane violation – When the batter runner is advancing to first base he/she is required to run in foul territory. In the event the runner physically or visually interferes with the throw, catch, or the defense, over or in fair territory, the runner will be guilty of interference and called out.
How else is the runner supposed to run to 1B considering the fact that the bag is in fair territory?
Apparently it is since he actually made the throw easier since the easiest path would have been to the outside of first base so him being inside the line gave them the clearest line to make the throw. The first baseman was on the wrong side of the bag and the throw went extremely to the left of the bag so I guess he subjectively impaired them from making the wrong throw. It's a stupid call either way and he should be embarrassed to make it, thought the Mich/Loui call would be the easy dumbest call today and that guy said hold my beer.I agree with this but "visibly impair" the throw is quite subjective. I don't think people have ever noticed the double white lines running up the 1st base line with 1 line being the 1st base line and the other the foul line to make the running lane.It looks like the runner makes contact literally directly on top of of the center of the base.
