2022 Recruits

He told recruits’ parents that their daughters would become lesbians if they played at UT
I think that would be hard sell for Geno to use considering the number of lesbian ladies who have played at UConn; Carla Berube, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Steff Dolson, Elena Della Dunne, Breanna Stewart and several others. I can't imagine Geno cutting his own recruiting throat with a comment like that.

Geno and many other coaches pull offers all the time and no one questions it. Many offers are on conditions being met. If you haven't met one of the conditions or are no longer meeting the conditions, I can pull my offer. Just so happened that her offer being pulled was reported and I doubt if anyone from our program reported the offer being pulled.

That’s fine. And it’s worth noting that Geno is getting best of the best. But, my response was regarding pulling an offer due to the desire for playing time assurance. That is a common concern at least from their circle. It’s hardly a crime but you don’t like it, it’s simple. Stop recruiting them. Don’t call and don’t text. They will not come. If that is the reason you no longer want a player, it isn’t worth the whole pulling thing to me in that you risk bad feelings with their program that might impede the ability to get the next kid.

I agree with everything you wrote here. I was primarily reacting to the comment about pulling offers which sounds like a petty reaction because that’s not how we think it should be or how it used to be. I’m not saying we are petty btw before someone gets upset. Kids, or usually those around them, may look for assurances. It is up to the staff to sell them it’s there if they prove they deserve it. And as importantly, you have to be willing to start freshmen so you can point to that with future recruits. I’d look for that opportunity even if others earn the most minutes or starts as you go along.

I hear you. the difference is saying you definitely have potential to be on the floor and if you work i can see you being a contributor . That's a big difference than yea you will be my starting guard coming in.

What if this player doesn't work and causes an issue because you promised playing time?

Is it possible she pulled the offers because the players insisted on playing time and thus there was no reason to pursue further. There had to be a reason for pulling an offer and that would be one logical reason could be others.

Check what @mlindsay said. Basically a recruit didn't get what she wanted and started ignoring the staff while still dangling UT tout.

So Kellie made the call for them and decided she wasn't LV material...

And truthfully i'm here for it 👀

Just because you "can't imagine" Geno doing that doesn't mean he didn't. Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi came out well after college. If you ever get a chance to talk to Sue, ask her what Geno told her dad.

No because an expectation has to be set from day 1. We just went through a coach who did not hold the ladies to the LV and the crap is still haunting us. So if you aren't willing to work we don't want you and im ok with that. Look at the recent dismissals ... no thanks

Ok, I just want to land a few elite kids. How we conduct recruiting doesn’t matter much. 2021 is progress after a dreadful 2020 class for a school like TN. But, we still need to break thru with an elite or two. Glad she admitted a hiring mistake and I truly hope that the assistants were the problem.

People didn't want to believe that Kellie inherited a complete rebuild of the Tennessee program meaning culture and image. I said it would take four years haven't changed my mind. I am very glad of what she has done thus far in recruiting and still think 2023 will be the first of a string of top rated classes.

As much as I dislike Geno I would agree with this.

Nothing wrong with that 👍🏾 I'm interested in to see how the freshman contribute.

A highly ranked recruit will be nice as long as they are willing to work. We have too many come in and not be held accountable or reach their potential.

One thing i know is we have an elite athlete in Wynn the basketball may take a min to catch up.

I hear what you're saying and i'm sure that the assistanT being replaced will help. I'm going to say this there are some rumors about TN. So if the coaches get in there and talk to parents about that not being true and get kids on campus so they can see the fan base and debunk some of those rumors they will be fine.

Are the rumors related to coaches? Admin?

The good news is the fact that so many universities are jockeying to be a part of the SEC should end the debate about which conference is the best in the land.

The bad news is that soon the conference could be so crowded it leaves no room on schedules for non-conference opponents. I always enjoy our out-of-conference games, so I'm feeling a little anxious about how all this will shake out.

SEC is on its way to becoming it's own entity in college sports...Like Notre Dame was for all those years as a team,,,the SEC if it continues to grow, will become its own division

like race and stuff like that... the recent vaccination whatever didn't help either i'm sure. All that type of stuff gets cycled around. When they are able to get on campus i think it will clear some things up and put some parents/athletes at ease

Anyways... back to recruiting and looking forward to "elite" players committing !

Race. Interesting. I see no issues with race on the team or from coaches. Knoxville has racists elements, but so do every other city. Whoever is spreading rumors about race problems here…. nope. And the vaccination…. why would people have a problem with the program trying to protect its players? 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Just so happened that her offer being pulled was reported and I doubt if anyone from our program reported the offer being pulled.

Almost all coaches have to pull offers just about every year. The better the program the more offers that have to be rescinded. Part of the deal with pulling offers is on the player. A player may be holding out for a certain school and letting other coaches wait. Then the other schools fill up their allotted roster and the player has their offers rescinded and has to settle for their 3rd, 4th, or 5th preference.

Caroline Ducharme gave an insight about her offer might have been rescinded in this quote from the UConn blog;
'When Auriemma talked to her, he made it clear that he wanted her at UConn but wasn’t sure if he had the roster spot.
“I had to say to her a couple times, ‘Listen, we have no idea what our situation is. We have no idea what our scholarship situation is or where we are and if you know if you can hang in there with us, I think it’s going to work out great. But if you need to make a decision and go someplace, I truly understand,’” Auriemma said.'

Caroline didn't sign anywhere else and it worked out for her, but it was a risk I'm sure that lots of players make. I would bet KJH has had similar conversations with 2022's that want to commit right now but are being held off as Coach finds out where UT stands with other players. That is one reason why you will see a flurry of commitments after a top 10 player has committed.

I thought the SEC required them to get vaccinated anyway, no?

Race is just an easy topic for people to throw around to smear someone these days. This country has an ugly history but it doesn’t mean we need to have an ugly present because of it.

Trust me when I say I love the LVs and i'm just the messenger. I'm sure coaches take something small and if they can plant a seed and if they get AAU coaches to latch on to and help steer athletes other ways.

The vaccination thing was when the state put out a mandate to stop addressing vaccinations or whatever ... I think the fact we are a school that allows students to express themselves will work in our favor.

The sad thing is that people use racism as a way to smear recruiting. It's not a Willy-nilly topic at all and should not be treated as such. This is where i hope Kellie and crew start calling people out and stop being so damn nice!

Oh, yes, I know you’re just the messenger!!! I guess I was directing my post at people who are spreading rumors.
