2022 Recruits

Exactly what do you think that is have to be unrelated to basketball because there is no breaking of team rules going on and all our present players get along very well. Our basketball arena and facilities are top class and I'm sure they are being told exactly how they fit in. AAU could be a reason I've heard. I don't think many players came in 2022 because of covid the ones that came late a couple had an attitude and got cancelled and another chose to stay close to home and the final one went to Miami over NC State, Florida State, and Tennessee for whatever reason. Other than those four and Justine no one visited except early in the process before covid shut it all down and we went video.
I do not know, I said it's a guess. But the facts are undeniable.....they aren't committing.

My guess, and it's only a guess, is they are seeing something they don't like. Maybe the staff needs to reevaluate what their doing during the prospects visit.
To add if Samantha Williams doesn't know how to proceed on a visit no one does as she closed out about numerous AA's at Louisville.

Our assistant coaches are getting them on campus. The deal, for whatever reason, isn't being closed.

My guess is some opposing coaches who are recruiting the same top players are doing a great job of reminding kids that Tennessee hasn't been to a final four in a long time. Depending on how that sad fact is presented -- if they do a good job of belittling Tennessee and convincing the recruit that going there would hurt her career -- that could be the main reason Kellie is losing some of the top kids.

Most of us acknowledge that the plummet the program took under the mismanagement that occurred before Kellie was hired -- Tennessee became a punchline to an ugly joke. Once the program became one opposing coaches could ridicule, some of them (from what I've heard) really, really, reeeaaaalllly took advantage of it. And once some young kids start fearing that THEY might be ridiculed if they go there, that's not something easy to overcome if you're a member of the next staff of recruiters.

The only sure way to put a stop to any negative recruiting is for Kellie to somehow find a way to get to a Final Four without having a roster full of Top 5 recruits.

Hopefully we aren't the only school that does things the right way!!
No I'm sure were not and to add no one did well in recruiting in 2022 SEC except SC got their two players living within 50 miles of school and Georgia got Barker and likely to get Burrell. We got the next highest ranked player in Justine. Every other SEC school has very little to show for 2022.

True, no one in the SEC has done well in recruiting the 2022 class so far. In fact, the SEC has only 3 of the top 40 ESPN prospects in the 2022 class. The PAC 12 has 10 from the top 40.

Cooper was offered by SC when she was in the seventh grade, years before Coach Kellie was Tennessee’s Coach. Any good recruit that Kellie talks to even now likely has been talking to and getting offers for years from other Coaches. We’re in catch up mode, but we’re building relationships, and getting visits from high ranked recruits now, a good sign we’re on the right track. Our 2021 class includes top players from their respective states, and Justine’s recruitment and commitment beat everybody. Keep your pants on everybody, we’re just getting started.

GO LADY VOLS!!!

What other pond would they be in?

It would literally be coaching malfeasance to not recruit widely desirable players, and grounds for immediate dismissal. This is not some great achievement. Reeling them in is the achievement.

Only here is a coach coddled to the point that just getting a visit, or finishing in a prospects top 10, is reason to celebrate her recruiting prowess. I suppose securing the commitment always has been the most overrated aspect of recruiting...

Football for sure. Men’s basketball as well.

If your goal is to compete for a national championship in WCBB Top 100 is not good enough.

ESPN has the 2021 class ranked at the 15th best class with the 43,45 and 62 ranked players. It’s a good class. But it won’t let you compete at the highest level.
They actually had Wynne as a top 20 player and she didn't play a summer season due to Covid which really lowered her ranking. The fact that she put up 30 a game in high school and was a division player of the year in Texas says more than an espn ranking. Texas as a whole generates a lot of great players. Kellie does not tip her hand, but we have some very good recruits that are used to winning and want to be at Tennessee to help build it back. The 2021 class is really good and just imagine if a couple of them or potentially all of them come on like Number 43 ranked Rae Burrell did and who is projected to go Number 10 in the first round in the WNBA draft. We will be in good shape. J.S.

Not sure getting fired is coddling?

I'm just curious why everyone seems to be high on us getting a top ranked 2023 class.. what makes everyone think this bc I haven't saw or heard anything that would make me assume this class will be any different than 22 or prior classes. Only 2023 we might get easily is Jada Harrison a TN kid and no disrespect but TN will probably be her best offer. I'm truly curious about this
I actually don’t think Harrison will be that easy of a get. I believe Louisville was her first big offer and I’m not sure if Notre Dame has offered but there was interest for sure. At this point we just have to let it play out. It’s just a waiting game and I pray 23’ is the big breakthrough recruiting wise. But Kellie need to win now to make it happen. Most of these young ladies are not going to commit to a program they feel isn’t headed in the direction of a Championship.

I agree that no recruit should be taken for granted, even an in-state recruit. With that being said, I believe we are in a good position for Harrison. Nevertheless, the LVs coaching staff needs to continue to go hard for Harrison. As I stated in previous posts, the LVs primary targets for the Class of 2023 should be McGhee, Shade, and Del Rosario. With not getting a PG in the Class of 2022, Harrison also should be a primary target.

They've also been going hard after Reniya Kelly

Two things are of the essence in sports,,,visibility and performance. . . . We are in their sights, now we have to prove to them that coming here is going to propel their game...And the best way to do that is to win...win the expected, a few of the unexpected and maybe an improbable upset,,a run in the tourneys and boom,,,,,You build it they will come

Agreed 100%.

Possibly these players being recruited had a pretty good idea where they were leaning 3 & 4 years ago and had spent time building relationships with other coaches and staff in person prior to the pandemic shutdown. The fact they even gave the Lady vols a look after not even being able to meet the staff in person for 18 months out of the last 2 years was something to behold. Kellie wasn't recruiting 5-star athletes to Missouri State, nor was Coach Sam to EKU the last couple of years. Coach Joy may have been on the recruiting trail after 5 stars and top players to FSU, but look at what they have landed for 2022; 1 top twenty athlete in Ta'Niya Latson and they say Sue Semrau is supposed to be a really good recruiter in her own right, although she did not coach last year. The relationships are being built and the top players will come. Tennessee has too much to offer for them not to.

The head coach is ultimately the one who has to close, and Williams had a much better closer at Louisville...
He hasn't been closing much lately his recruits are rated about the same as Tennessee. Actually we have a higher rated recruit than him this season. He has a 34, 37. and 56 this season and last year 2021 his class was ranked lower than Tennessee's by every service. Seems he did a lot better when Williams was there as an Assistant. His class was ranked number 20 in 2021 and his highest ranked players in the last two seasons is a number 12 so Kellie has a number 11 and a class ranked higher in 2021 so he is a bad example for the last two seasons. I could go ahead and give you a list of all the players he has missed on this year, but the fact he has lost the last two seasons in recruiting to Tennessee is enough information. Adding that he has been there over a decade not looking so good since he lost her the one year to Eastern Kentucky and now to Tennessee.

Just to add he didn't only miss on Oldacre and Cooper he could not even get a visit. There was a huge list that Tennessee missed on that he missed on as well so his recruiting is taking a downturn the last two years.
