2022 Recruits

With the players Holly had, Kellie would've went to final 4 3times even win a championship. And now she made it hard for Kellie because she has to prove what she can do to get top recruits.

Hopefully so, but she needs to add a couple of those type of players to have that chance. 22 is where that needs to happen. It takes both aspects.

Is there a list of players that Tennessee has offered for 2022? One year the list was kept on the first page of the thread and updated.

Concerning the current offers and assuming two more commits for the class, do you take the first two to commit or wait it out for your top two choices?

I have heard that some coaches are very honest about players. It was over a year ago I heard a big man wanted to accept an offer from, I think, Kansas. The report I heard was that the coach recruiting him informed him that he might want to wait on accepting because if so-and-so accepts his offer it would mean less opportunity for the player. I had never heard such a story before. It seems like telling a kid they are the second choice would cause the second choice to look elsewhere. Anyone have any insight into that situation?

With rankings, recruiting services etc players have a good idea where they stand.
Nothing wrong with being honest to a kid and vice versa either so they can explore all options that’s best for them. Recruiting works both ways.

I'd also think that said recruit would take that under consideration before signing a NLI.

As the poster above me said, the players should all have an idea as to where they'd stand in the pecking order.

Kids now more than ever need to go where they are wanted. You know as you get older if you’re D1 (Power 5), D1-3 type player.

I would think they know where they stand in all the recruiting rankings and who plays a similar game. But they might not know who else the school has offered and perhaps the school actually wants a kid that is ranked below them for what ever reason the coaches would want. Do you think Hurley would have blown Bouknight off because of a higher ranked kid accepted a trolling offer. Recruiting sometimes is like a poker game everyone knows their cards, but what's the other guy got.

Correct. Coaches ask players where they stand or have dialogue with travel coach to get information or receive information. To me a player holds more power if they are wanted by an in conference team(s) at the top of the conference.

Karly Weathers and Loretto beat Sara Puckett and Muscle Shoals again last night. Sounded like a pretty good game. Wasn’t able to attend due to COVID restrictions on number of fans. Karly had another good game. 35 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Mustangs.

I will find out...

I was there. There were probably 50 fans total in the gym. Loretta has the better team but not by a lot. I left with 40 seconds remaining and they were up 10 or 11. Loretta also has the best player and it isn’t close. I know points scored doesn’t paint the entire picture but I confirmed with my own eyes what I have been hearing from Murfreesboro HS coaches. Which is ‘if TN doesn’t get Weathers then they are letting a transcendent talent get away’.

Puckett had 13 pts with different players guarding her in a traditional man when they weren’t playing zone. No face guarding, just traditional defense. Looked to be around 6’2” or 6’3” with a solid physique but not a traditional post and to slow to play guard at UT. Solid player but doesn’t move the needle for TN. We have similar players at UT right now.

Muscle Shoals sole focus was Weathers and she dropped 35 being face guarded the whole game. Attributes are ball handling, vision, makes every pass, can slash and finish, has the mid range game, can shoot from literally anywhere past half court within reason. No doubt the leader vocally and physically on her team. Weaknesses are none that I could see except for maybe she is probably 5’11”. Great player and would move the needle for TN. No one like her at UT right now.

Who would those similar players be that we have at TN right now?

Not bringing players by name that wear the uniform into this thread and that is my opinion only. I wish no ill will toward any of our recruits, just calling it like I literally saw it.

I’m saying Puckett will never play guard here so she will be like several others we have that are 6”2 or 6”3 that do not play guard.

LOL ok. i get and respect that. but since you have seen her and giving your take... Being a player with a solid body (which would probably benefit her in the SEC) will she help move the needle when it comes to some more bench depth? She also has been said to be a good free throw shooter which couldn’t hurt.

Karly... she was the best player on the floor but when you talk about moving the needle how will that translate to the SEC guards who are stronger and quicker than anything she will have seen. I haven’t followed her AAU team (i see she played on the same team as puckett but i don’t think on the same age group). She has a sweet stroke and seemingly good IQ from the clips i’ve seen. Maybe more of a Sue Bird type impact player not the quickest or most athletic but is gonna make an impact ?

Sue Bird is a good comparison, she was 5’9.
That was the one potential weakness I saw and I mentioned critiquing Weathers. I can see Weathers getting taller and definitely getting bigger and stronger. Other than adding muscle though, her game is SEC ready right now. Not saying she will be Sue Bird, but I could definitely see it happening.

Karly’s skills will translate well. In a normal AAU year, she’s plays against great competition and more than holds her own. She’s a solid 5’11” and plays bigger than that due to athletic ability. She’s grown physically the last year so who’s to say she won’t end up 6’ or taller. Her dad is a solid 6’4”-6’5”. Great leaper with good body control. Sees the floor and involves her teammates. Exceptional ball handler. Shoots lights out with unlimited range. Can slash and score or pull up and score.
More importantly, she’s a leader on and off the court. Holds her teammates accountable and they respect her for because she’s her harshest critic. She can flat play the game because she works her ass off to be the best player on the court. I’ve watched her do it since she was a little kid.
If UT has slowed down their pursuit of her, I’m sure they have their reasons but I’m not sure it won’t come back to bite them.

I know what they've g ot with Puckett at her best and she will be an impact player at the SEC college level. I also don't argue that Karly Weathers is a can't miss player with off the charts BB IQ and an inner drive to match, If she isn't heavily recruited it is a mistake....2022 I want to see Karly and one top 5 prospect,,,nothing more, nothing less.

In this next batch, I put my big money on Kaiya Wynn and Karoline Striplin (I watched KS play against taller, faster posts and she outplayed both of them on both ends). In that tournament Sara got a tooth knocked out and didn't get to play,,,,But I spoke at length to her coach and she is a difference maker... In the same tourney (Atlanta) I watched Karly play two games and she is like having a "John Stockton meets Steph Curry."

Mark my words!
Karly will be worth the effort.
