2022 Recruits

I know what they've g ot with Puckett at her best and she will be an impact player at the SEC college level. I also don't argue that Karly Weathers is a can't miss player with off the charts BB IQ and an inner drive to match, If she isn't heavily recruited it is a mistake....for 2024 I want to see Karly and one top 5 prospect,,,nothing more, nothing less.

In this next batch, I put my big money on Kaiya Wynn and Karoline Striplin (I watched KS play against taller, faster posts and she outplayed both of them on both ends). In that tournament Sara got a tooth knocked out and didn't get to play,,,,But I spoke at length to her coach and she is a difference maker... In the same tourney (Atlanta) I watched Karly play two games and she is like having a "John Stockton meets Steph Curry."

Mark my words!
Karly will be worth the effort.

Interesting Coach. Where do you see Puckett playing, stretch 4?

precisely, she can knock down long range, mid range and she can attack the rim

I respect your opinion. Here is my opinion and anyone that reads it doesn’t have to respect it, I understand.

My eye tells me Puckett is a high floor - low ceiling type player. In my opinion this equates to a role player. If she is on (shooting) she can make a difference at times. But her lack of mobility and explosiveness will prevent her from being an impact player on either end of the floor in my opinion. I truly believe Barnes would take the other player if he had to choose.

Thanks for the analysis in your threads.

Originally only Wynn was rated higher than Puckett ... there's a reason for that.
She is better than you think

But as I said in another thread
You can have all the ingredients for cake and if the cook doesn't mix them right, it turns out cornbread

I know how she played for her AAU coach (one cook)....I don't know how the other cook (her HS coach) is!

ps...what other player?

Cambridge is a highly rated point guard and she is in the class of 2024. Jumper misspoke about Weathers' class, however. Weathers is a combo guard in the class of 2022 and has held a Tennessee offer since at least June 1, 2019, shortly after Kellie Harper took the Lady Vol reins.

Didn't think it was a deliberate, or even a momentous, mistake. In fact, I figured it was just a typo, since you were in the class of '22 thread. But I think that is what led VA_VOLFAN to raise the question of Jaloni Cambridge as the other recruit you would recommend.

No big deal!

There was a reason I drove 2 hours to watch this game. Considering it was a rematch and we were told Puckett got frustrated and didn’t play well in the 1st matchup, I was expecting to see a monster game from Puckett on her home floor. When I saw her size in person compared to the rest of the players, I thought it was certain she would dominate. 6’3 with a good physique is impressive compared to 6’ and overly thin on the opposing team. She didn’t dominate in any sense of the imagination and it was a red flag for me.

During warmups I watched her and no one else. I could tell rather quickly that her vertical wasn’t what I was expecting nor her lateral quickness. I was expecting a hybrid 4 that could play the 3 and guard the 2. That isn’t her game and that’s ok. I suppose I was expecting to much so forgive my analysis. However I stand by my analysis in that she will be a role player at TN.

I realize they are 1 year apart but the other player is Weathers.

I'm not saying she won't be a role player,,,what I am saying is you've yet to see her play her role.
I trust her exposure AAU coach and he raved about how her game often mirrored the teams performance.

HS coaches are either great or there, by proxy.
I have seen some crappy HS coaches

Case in point, i sat with a HS coach after his practice and his daughter was shooting.
her layup looked awful.
I told him I would help her with her layup
He called to her and asked her to do a layup for me...
She belted out a (leave me alone)-"why!!! I don't feel like it!"
I thought to myself, if this is as much respect as he has out of his daughter, I now Know why his team is struggling!.

We talked on for a minute and I left
right after he brought up the 1800 dollar stipend for coaching a BB team!

She’s had the offer since then but from what I was told she hasn’t heard much from KJH and that concerns me. She’s a special player and would improve any team that gets her. Seems like the kind of player KJH would like but again, the last time I talked to people in the know (and they would definitely know), UT hasn’t spent much time talking to her.

Recruiting is the backbone of building a team. Another primary "bone" is advancing your individual talents.
With today's social media and DM's, there is no reason not to stay in touch with significant players. Even those you lose or that move on....I got a Happy New Year from Meme Jackson (who has moved on) and a Merry Christmas from Jillian Hollingshead (who chose GA).

I know what you are saying. And to be honest, I wasn’t impressed with either coach. The red flag was the lack of dominance from our highest rated recruit in 2021. Had every reason and opportunity to dominate and by all accounts her effort wasn’t lacking. She just isn’t an explosive player and that was disappointing.

CKH has rescinded the offer according to MTSU staff, citing Covid. They would love to have her but no way they get her over Bama, Kentucky, Indiana, and other P5 programs. I spent 2 hours on the phone on my drive back talking to coaches that cannot believe CKH isn’t begging her to be a LV.
Potentially Tennessee’s Sue Bird.

Wait wait... 🤔

So MTSUs staff was discussing a player not signed to them?!? isn’t that an NCAA no no?

If Kellie is passing up on this young lady what does she have up her sleeves? i mean she seems to have recruited two of her club teammates or people who would be familiar with Karly...

wow this whole thing... wow

Ummmm what? Harper rescinded the offer because of COVID? Is that what you’re saying?

So those that have seen the SEC top 5 teams play and the way they pressure the ball can you see any of these players being able to compete against arguably the fastest players in the NCAA that play for the top 5?

Really interesting........

Come on @VA_VOLFAN, you honestly think coaches don’t talk about the best players in their state with friends and colleagues? Not a violation of any rule to discuss the best players in your state and Weathers is not committed as far as I know.

It’s no shocker that Belmont, Lipscomb, MTSU and the like would love to get her.

@PG1 - I predict Puckett will be a role player at TN and Weathers will be All Conference either in the SEC or Big 10

I am not naive enough to believe that people don’t say “wish we could get our hands on her” or “she is going to be a good one” or even “i can’t believe kellie hasn’t even really chased the girl” or “i heard her offer for rescinded”.

but the fact it got put on a board is where this story goes awry ... I just remember coaches always saying well i can’t comment on a player not in our program (meaning signed). That’s just a fact and it is what it is... the fact it would be talked about with an outsider outside of any program is where i think it would become a minor violation. But hey it makes for good gossip at best.

I would of loved to see Kaiyas team (with her on it) play Karlys team. That would of put some of the states best talent against each other. Shoot I would love to hear if Karlys team played the other young lady who predicted to be the best player in the state i think she signed with Iowa State. I posted a link below that had her as the best player coming back... @LorettoVolfan is Karly just underanked and underrated?

By the way my post wasn’t meant to be argumentative more inquisitive.
