2022 Recruits

No hate intended but I have a serious question.

Do the majority of posters on here really think Hawk/Weathers are being recruited heavily by UT?

I just don’t see it. So far, at the guard spot, we have brought in Walker and Miles. Both smaller and lightening quick (yes Jordy will be when that brace is off). Hawk and Weathers look like Tess Darby 2.0 to me. Not that it’s a bad thing, but I don’t think that’s what this staff is after in terms of guard play.

Haven’t seen any credible information that were actively recruiting them beyond maybe a feel good offer from the instate school. Not sure who brought their names to the board so heavily.

No

this has to be the most ignorant s*** I just read.....Every player on the Lady Vol team are cisgender women and you f***in know that....they may not conform to traditional ways in the way they appear or their sexuality but that doesnt make them any less of a women
🗣🗣🗣 say it louder for the people in the back

Not the greatest sample size, but didn't Weathers dominate Puckett in two head-2-head games this season? If she was hands-down the best player on the court (over the HS Wooden Award candidate LV recruit), I would think that she would be up there as far as skill-level. Seems she's getting a lot of looks from other SEC teams too.

I haven't seen her play...this is just based on the previous discussion of Weathers vs. Puckett in their games.

There’s much bigger fish in the sea we are looking at , and , if we land those , well these Lady Vols about to be rollin quickly.

If? I thought she already had one locked up?

Madi is just a freshman, class of 2024

And it’s a 2022 thread.

As to the intel from elite prospects, it usually comes from analyst that interview kids and talk to the big AAU and high school coaches as well as other recruits talking about other players.

There was no domination in either game. Weathers team won those games because she was on the better team. They didn't play one on one and didn't guard each other. Puckett had 20 points and about six blocks in the last game they played. The fact that some poster went to the game and came on here and said there was domination is ridiculous. It is true that Weathers scored more points in both games. I don't know how anyone got domination out of it since both play different positions and didn't come close to one another very many times in the games. It would be the same as saying that Michael Jordan got dominated if he played with four midgets against five NBA players. I remember that guy that posted that which has somehow become fact and if you read any of his or her follow up post you would see that sometimes they make little sense. JMO.

Absolutely not. I teach my players to get the absolute highest reach possible when they releasing the ball. I want them to be at least as high enough to touch bottom of the backboard. I also teach to land in a box out and Never Land going forward as that is where injuries happen. I also break down each phase of a layup process . For instance I teach that when to plant foot goes down the vision goes up, when to plant foot goes down the ball should be at the beginning of the cradling process picking the ball up. I teach many aspects of the cycle of the layup. I break it down so the each phase has emphasized mechanics. I also detest seeing girls pick the ball up at the belly with two hands and getting blocked by someone half their size when they should be picking the ball up with one hand and fending off with the other
I bet that’s great technique when playing 1 on 0.

Honestly, I would advise against anyone taking that much from this thread or this forum seriously. Unless you see it with your own two eyes, or have it on video, you have no idea if it did or did not happen. Most of the talk here is speculative at best, and as with any recruiting conversation, we have people who are hyping recruits well in advance of their being evaluated or targeted by Tennessee. Now that hyping doesn't mean they're entirely wrong (or right), but it sometimes means they're emotionally invested in the kid's "journey" to being recruited and signed by Tennessee. You have to take that hype with a huge grain of salt-- well, my advice anyway. And you should tread even more carefully when you see exaggerated claims or superlative statements. I can count on two hands the number of superlative players I've seen in person in the last twenty years.

Ah HA! Now see? Even my own statement was an exaggeration and a claim without video or proof. I may be telling the truth, or at least the truth as I know it - but how do you know? So. Grain of salt. Large grains of salt.

This is unfortunate that you feel this way. Concern for your own enjoyment above the horrible daily discrimination and abuse that trans people face daily. The risk of being killed as a trans woman is unacceptably high. If we were to weigh the options of trying to protect trans people vs. the perceived slight of someone’s interest in watching sports at the current status quo of women’s sports, then we should as a society come down on the side of favoring the lives of our people.

Now, I am a huge fan of women’s basketball and have been a fan of TN since watching the final four over Easter weekend in the 80s. Am I reluctant to have it change? Yes. Do I think it significantly will change? No. How many male to female trans athletes do you know? Are they looking to take advantage of title IX scholarships? I would think the answer is negligible. If there is a flood, there is guidance elsewhere in sports on the international stage on how to protect the privileged many who want to protect their own interests. Otherwise, while searching for guidance why not look to our current female athletes. Many are very intelligent, and they have experienced discrimination their entire life in the form of racism, misogyny, and homophobia. They also are very socially active. In particular, you can look to the New York Liberty who this summer wore warmup shirts for many games stating: Black Trans Lives Matter. The shirts were so popular they were offered for sale to the public. I myself got one. This is the sport they love, they’ve dedicated their lives to and is their livelihood. How about asking them how they feel about Biden’s executive order? Think they would rather maintain the status quo or possibly would they favor the protection for the most marginalized class and deal with an issue once a purported problem is realized.

You my friend are full of it. Puckett guarded Karly in the first game this year and has in games the last two years prior to this one, until she got in foul trouble. They’ve played each other twice a year for three years (and I’ve seen every game but the last one) guarded each other for portions of every game and Karly outscored and @ 5’10” outrebounded her. Puckett’s 20 points and 6 blocks pale in comparison to Karly’s 35 points, 12
rebs and 4 blocks. But Karly plays in a small town and doesn’t get the pub Puckett does. Watch some of their AAU tapes and tell me who’s better.
Karly is twice as athletic, has more range, better vision, is a much better athlete and whether you like it or not, is the better player. No one is saying Puckett can’t play but Karly is better and has proved it. Heck, I work with people from Muscle Shoals and they laugh when people hype that matchup.
As for the term dominated, as far as stats, leadership, getting her teammates involved and controlling the flow of the game, Karly dominated the floor. She’s a player. That’s it.
She’s better than some we have signed and some we will sign, but she’s not on KJH’s radar and that’s fine. She’s gonna play somewhere and be really good.

If Kaiya Wynn was still in TN would she be the better player?

Unlike some of these folks on here, I can’t say for sure so I won’t can’t compare. Haven’t seen her play as much as Weathers, Darby, Puckett and some of the others who play for and against Karly’s AAU team.

I gotcha i know Wynn was ranked as the number 1 played in TN before leaving for texas. i just didn’t know if their teams had played before she moved.

Best of luck to Ms. Weathers with that said i am glad Ms. Wynn is tearing up the Houston area.

I have not seen Weathers or Puckett play !

However, did they not play on the same AAU team ? More than one year ..... The people who rank players and assign a number have ranked Puckett and I can’t find anything on Weathers ? I don’t understand? But I am sure she is a good player ! Seems to score a lot of points ! Maybe if we have a state tournament.... I might be able to watch her ? 🤷‍♂️

Have you seen them play in person? Several times?
I have... Weathers is as solid as any player at her position. That’s a fact. And she’s been on the scene challenging the best. Cant wait to watch her play EYBL for the first time!

As for Hawk the verdict is still out. She has a lot of hype around her name but has been struggling this year until their weak conference play and hasn’t played real top level summer basketball at all. (On top of the fact she didn’t play at all last season). Who knows as of right now she has 1 mid major offer
