Howard gives off such a "I'll play when I feel like it" vibe that, IMO, hurts her image. I would love to see her put together a post-season in which she looks consistently engaged and appreciative of the experiences she's having. The chip on her shoulder is blocking out the sun.
I agree with the massive chip on Howard's shoulder, but I also think she gets a lot more sh!t than she deserves. If anything, she tries to get her teammates engaged too much instead of just taking the damn game over. She may not be the facilitator that Clark is, but she's every bit the scorer and she's a far better defensive player. I think she's gonna be really good in the WNBA.

On a side note, I think her scorching case of RBF makes it seem that she's more miserable than she actually is.

Ha! That could be!

And yes, she'll be a fine pro because she has already proved she can score lots of points regardless of who is guarding her. Her defense has gotten tons better, for sure.

Not counting her olympic time, just how many national championships has Dawn won in her career (player and coach)?

I meant to say this earlier but got sidetracked. I'm in agreement with all the player choices and their places on these All-SEC teams. But there's one young Lady Vol I thought had at or near the same level of impact as Puckett, and that's Miles. I felt like, when all was said and done, Miles' tenacious defense was more important to the team down the stretch. Puckett had kinda stalled out a bit, IMO, but Miles became a freaking nightmare for opponents on D.

All that and I forgot to say that maybe I might have put Miles on the freshman squad if I could only choose one Lady Vol. I do look for Puckett to get her second win in the post-season, though.

Actually our own Kellie was being talked about as Coach of the Year, with our team pulling out win after win, starting at the very beginning of the season with losses of Marta, and Rae, the one who was supposed to be the star of the team this year, then losses of Keyen and Horston. The winning season has been a remarkable Coaching achievement.

Yeah, and for a time I thought she was a strong candidate. But that was before losing to Auburn and Alabama ... and even Florida, at that time, was to some considered a bad loss. Then we lost even more games that we were expected to lose, but still ...

It was fun while it lasted! 😏 Actually, if not for the Auburn and Alabama losses I think she'd have had a good a shot as anybody. Sure would like THOSE games back. 😫

Yeah I don't exactly understand how they go about making these choices. Finley did an incredible job turning a dumpster fire program going through a lot of drama in the last year into a formidable NCAAT team in the top 25.

Kim, who I am not a fan of, took a team that went 9-13 last year and has them 25-4, and in the Top 10 for the first time in over 13 years. That is probably one of the biggest turn arounds in SEC history taking over a new team that has been middle of the pack for some time now.

I get both teams aren't at SC's level but SC was expected to win the conference, it is a team 1-15 that is filled with 5 stars and all Americans.
Joni Taylor Got Coach of the year last year and she did not do anything near what Kim Mulkey did at LSU this year. I am not a Mulkey fan, but this was a totally political and biased pick for Coach of the Year. You would think this award would go to a coach that did the unexpected in turning a program around like Coach Mulkey or Coach Yo who did not have oodles of talent sitting on their bench, rather than the coach that has 10 high school all Americans on her team and should not have lost a game this season. Are they awarding recruiting ability or coaching ability????

Joni shouldn't have gotten it last year either. It should have gone to Gary Blair. I see no logical reason for why Gary didn't win, considering he dethroned the 800 lb SC gorilla from the throne.

Not sure why you think Dawn is a political pick. Her team finished first and totally dominated the league. Pat Summitt won a whole slew of SECCOY awards for doing the exact same thing. What I find more confusing is the changing goal post for what determines the winner. The criteria from last year was obviously completely different from this year, as well as years past.

Tamari got robbed of being defensive player of the year. Totally unacceptable. Apparently leading the nation in blocks isn’t good enough. She did have several games this year with double digit blocks SEC committee! Nonetheless, congrats to our ladies who made all SEC lists!

Blocks isn't the only statistical category considered. If it were, TK would have won it, for sure.

Granted, it's impossible to quantify the Tamari Key Effect and how her mere presence on the floor often dictated what opposing teams would try to do. She affects opponents, even if can't always be measured.

All that said, Boston is also a defensive force. She ranked a respectable second to TK in blocks, ranked 1st in rebounds (TK, 4th), and had only one fewer steals at 32 than Jordan Horston, Jordan Walker and Anastasia Hayes had at 33.

I think Boston winning it was the best way to go since she was amazing in every defensive statistical category.

Could Tamari look at this and become inspired to improve other parts of her defensive game for her senior season? Sure hope so!

They also need a category for shots changed because other than blocks Tamari changed about another 100 shots. She did fairly well in rebounds considering we had Horston one of the best in the league and Dye pulling 7 a game. I could agreed either way on the winner.

I have a feeling TK was a verrrrrry close second in voting. Naturally, my heart says that since Boston won overall Player of the Year it would have been nice to spread the love and give DPOY to someone else -- or at the very least, name them both co-DPsOY. I doubt anyone in the league would have balked at that.

Still not mad about how it turned out. I'm crazy about Boston's game this year.

I thought the Florida coach was going to win it. However, if winning and recruiting are the main criteria then it was obvious.

It would be really hilarious if lady vol fans would show up with posters or t-shirts stating Key as the DPOY alongside her photo 😂

Yeah, you should do it if the Lady Vols matchup with SC in the SEC tournament. That would be hilarious. 🙄

If we want to embarrass the Tennessee Lady Vol program, sure, go ahead.

Jeez. That would be among the most classless actions by a fanship ever. Why would anyone find it amusing to hurt Aliyah Boston like that?

The SEC defensive team selections have always been suspect. Nicky Anosike was never named to one in her time at UT.

This just in SEC awards Boston as the best shot blocker even though she only had 75 blocks to Tamari Key's 108. SC fans wanted to know why 108 was being counted more than 75 and demanded that Boston win. SEC folded to their demand as Charlie Creme interceded and said that Boston's blocks were more stylish and each should count as two actually giving her 150. The SEC and ESPN agreed and since they run the networks changed the totals.

I wish I was a coach and had eleven high school all Americans most ranked in the top 10. I could be coach of the year.
Part of the job of being a coach is acquiring and developing talent. And part is meshing it all together with game planning and strategy. I think being the number one ranked team in the nation (which requires all of the aforementioned) prob qualifies the coach to be Conference COY....
