Yeah I don't exactly understand how they go about making these choices. Finley did an incredible job turning a dumpster fire program going through a lot of drama in the last year into a formidable NCAAT team in the top 25.

Kim, who I am not a fan of, took a team that went 9-13 last year and has them 25-4, and in the Top 10 for the first time in over 13 years. That is probably one of the biggest turn arounds in SEC history taking over a new team that has been middle of the pack for some time now.

I get both teams aren't at SC's level but SC was expected to win the conference, it is a team 1-15 that is filled with 5 stars and all Americans.
I wonder what coach recruited, landed and developed those players.

Part of the job of being a coach is acquiring and developing talent. And part is meshing it all together with game planning and strategy. I think being the number one ranked team in the nation (which requires all of the aforementioned) prob qualifies the coach to be Conference COY....

IMO routinely giving COY to whoever won the championship (except bizarrely Gary Blair last year) is just lazy. Like much of WBB coverage, it's kind of a throw away, why bother move. Not saying Dawn's not deserving this year, but it a real meh move.

Finley and Harper both had late season skids that hurt any COY upset bids they might have had I guess.

If we want to embarrass the Tennessee Lady Vol program, sure, go ahead.

Jeez. That would be among the most classless actions by a fanship ever. Why would anyone find it amusing to hurt Aliyah Boston like that?
Nah some ot the things said in forum would be at top of being classless. If you think that would embarrass the program then you haven’t been paying attention to much lately at all…

Tamari got robbed of being defensive player of the year. Totally unacceptable. Apparently leading the nation in blocks isn’t good enough. She did have several games this year with double digit blocks SEC committee! Nonetheless, congrats to our ladies who made all SEC lists!
It's possible, and not unreasonable IMO that leading the nation in blocks isn't enough. Exactly like Clark's freakishly great ability to hit 3s may not be enough for NPOY. Doing one part of the job crazy great doesn't necessarily win out over great play all round in the category.

I do agree TK deserves consideration not just for raw block numbers, but for the shots she changes or scares away as well as the game plans she alters. No doubt she is a great defensive force just by walking on the court.

Yeah, I'm with you in not discounting what Dawn has accomplished. She may five stars from 1-15 on her roster, but she needs to get them to buy in, play together, and accept that they won't get the minutes they would've liked. And she's done that, and will continue doing so with the next group of 5 stars she brings in.

But all things considered, I would have her 3rd behind Mulkey and Finley.
Just curious, why Finley over Harper? To me they had the exact same season, except Harper lost her best player twice. Both duct taped together miracle seasons after losing their best players, then both inevitably hit a skid toward the end. And then Harper lost her new best player as well. I'd have a hard time picking one over the other.

The losses to Auburn and Alabama killed CKJH chances of COY. I thought the Florida interim would get it, I really did, esp. after they beat us.
FLA lost 3 in a row to end the regular season, including to Vandy and Missouri, both bad losses. Finley did get a couple of COY awards but I think they were voted before they crashed the last week of the season. They have a chance to lose to Vandy again just in few minutes.

Those were what wrecked her chances then.

I think they might too. I said two weeks ago the wheels were coming off for Florida. She fired them up and got them motivated. She lost control at some point though starting with their game at Auburn it seemed like she didn’t have a good handle on them. They were ignoring her play calls and she was benching people and griping at them left and right. After that they barely won their next game then lost 3 straight.

She might get it done there but I have a feeling she’ll be there 3-5 years then out. Hiring an interim is always dangerous business. She had a lot of fuel to motive them after what went on with Newbauer and then the Briggs drama. Without that I think they go back to being an average team with Smith graduating.

Well, no, actually it would be far more likely that signs at the SEC Tournament dissing Boston would been seen by Boston and probably wind up on TV, embarrassing Tennessee in front of a huge audience. I seriously doubt Boston reads this message board, and even those who do kinda expect anonymous fanatics to say awful things sometimes. I don't think kids expect opposing fans to go out of their way hurt them over something they had no control over.

Any of them ever played, been to, or seen a men's game at say Cameron Indoor Arena or Bud Walton Arena? Kids say the darnest things!

I actually think the likely result of such a prank would be Boston would not see, know, or care and 98% of people in the arena or on TV wouldn't have a clue what it meant. Pretty sure the university and state would be spared the embarrassment.

Alexis Hornbuckle had Wal-Mart bags waved at her at the FT line against Duke (?) when she was a freshman after her shoplifting escapades.

I don't think the shirt thing is hurtful to Aliyah, but it's tacky as hell.

If you honestly think Boston would be embarrassed then you’re very naive. Stating someone else should be the DPOY is not dissing her at all, simply stating that they got it wrong.

It’s just another way to say, “Hey Boston! What a joke! You didn’t deserve DPOY!”

Is she above being heckled? Is it that men’s college players can handle it but women are too emotionally fragile and will burst into tears on court and need to be carried off in a stretcher?

Why in the name of God would anyone want to heckle a college athlete, female or male, over something they had ZERO control over???????????? Why would anyone even think that's acceptable behavior? Because people do it? Is that really good enough a reason?

I hope everyone who believes it would be okay for fans to heckle the tremendously sweet young woman Aliyah Boston over something she had no control over have children and grandchildren, and then let them consider how they'd feel if that happened to them.

My goodness. Sometimes ... 😢

Oh the horror. Or they could just yawn like Diamond DeShields when she played an away game at Duke her freshman year at UNC.
