2022 SEC Baseball Standings

The Vols game time (as we know) has been set for 4:30 on 5/25 Against the winner of the Florida Ole Miss Game the prior afternoon.

Win and they play Thursday in late game (likely around midnight if history holds true)
Should the lose, they play around 1-2: on Thursday in game 10

Alabama got bailed out by a very suspicious rainout on Sunday. They were tied with Auburn when stopped and it was declared a no-contest instead of tie so the Tide could be the Sunday afternoon traffic on the 158 mile drive back to Tuscaloosa.

Not saying this looks suspicious, but this lost games alleviates the chance that Alabama would lose tiebreakers. In fact, both Mississippi State and Kentucky hold the tiebreaker over Alabama. (MSU head to head and UK due to record against UT)

Now, state will need to win 2 more games than Alabama instead of 1. AL, MS and UK all play top-tier teams so I suspect the tiebreaker would have been a definite issue

The bottom five teams are all playing tough foes in final week and none are playing each other.

South Carolina @ Florida (magic #1 over Miss State)
Alabama hosts Arkansas (Magic #2 over Mississippi State and 1 over Mizzou)
Kentucky hosts Auburn (magic #3 over Mississippi State 2 over Mizzou)
Mississippi State hosts Tennessee
Missouri @ Georgia

Great summary of an exciting final weekend.
Thanks for doing that.

It will be interesting, indeed. Consider: There are 4 days between this Saturday, the last day of our reg season, and Wednesday afternoon the 25th, when we play our first game in Hoover, The starters have for the most part been starting on a 7 day rhythm. That means its possible that whoever starts Thursday this week could start Wednesday next week with 6 days between starts OR whoever starts TOMORROW NIGHT could be the starter next Wednesday, giving him 8 days between starts - one extra of rest - and the other starters a week between starts, as the starter Thursday this week would go Thursday next week, etc. So I think there's a possibility one of our front line starters will go tomorrow night, and he will be the one planned to start next Wednesday in Hoover, and the remaining three will start this weekend and fall into line in the Hoover rotation. Once we get to Hoover, we have 5 starters (including Sechrist) in case we fall into the loser bracket.

Belmont is a tough team, according to their record, and throwing our best starter at them tomorrow night will make sense from that standpoint, too. Right now, I think our best starter is Dolly, who threw Thursday night. So I woudn't be surprised to see Dolly start tomorrow night on a limited pitch count with Sechrist backing him up.

The regionals start five days after Hoover is over, so CTV likely has a plan to make the transition between Hoover and Regional first game, but it will probably ultimately depend on how things go in Hoover with each pitcher.
On top of those 5 starters, I wouldn't be surprised to see Joyce get a start.
Tony has mentioned his ability to start several times.

I'm guessing Joyce isn't ready for prime time just yet. He looked great in the Saturday start once through the lineup, and then.........

He went 4 IP with 1 H 0 BB and 0 Runs against a pretty good Auburn lineup.

Yes, he did. When he is landing that slider of his, the hitters have no chance at the FB. But when he isn't, like Saturday, they sit on the FB and tag it. I think he needs a third pitch - a change up. Then he would be really devastating as a starter.

Do you know if Joyce intends to join the draft this summer and be gone?

The projections I've seen all have him a top 150 pick and climbing. If that's the case, I assume he's gone.

Yeah, he needs to go. He'll be drafted between Rounds 3-5, which is big money for a reliever. He also already has had TJ, so he needs to get his money and protect himself before any other potential injuries happen. He took the CBB world by storm this year. He's a household name. I doubt an extra year would do much to change his draft stock, especially because Rounds 1-2 are almost exclusively reserved for top-end high school talent and college positional players.

He plans to go this year. I'm convinced his last few outings have proven that he is healthy and can throw more than just one inning which will greatly help his stock. He has a change-up but it is still a work in progress. He has thrown it a few times and it sits in the 82 range which is crazy because you don't see an arm change and it is 20 plus mph difference. I think when he gets comfortable with it he will become more elite. Anybody who throws 105 for strikes is already elite. Just know that when you connect with 103 it has to go somewhere really fast but at the next level he will saw off some bats that are hits right now with metal. If he continues as he has, I think he will be a first rounder this year. No way that many teams let a guy who throws 105 slip by first round. He is a guy who can go throw tomorrow as a closer in MLB

I hope you're right. Seems like a really good kid from a really nice family.

I would absolutely love to see him go first round, I'm just not sure how often we see college relievers go that high. Personally, I'd be 100% behind my Red Sox drafting him in the first, ha. We need bullpen arms BAD. But, I think Joyce will go in Round 2. We do have 2 Round 2 picks thanks to that dummy Jud Fabian rejecting our offer last year, so maybe if Joyce doesn't go in Round 1, we can use our compensatory pick at 41 to take a flier on him.

You're right that college relievers don't often go that high......but you don't often see college relievers throwing 105 mph.

So true. And I don’t think it’s outside of the realm of possibility for him to go that high, but I haven’t seen it mocked anywhere yet. Hell, I hope he goes #1 overall, but I think he’ll ultimately end up in Round 2-3 which is still an incredible accomplishment considering how much talent there is in a baseball draft compared to other professional drafts.
