I think a good selling point is he could develop his brand better at UT than in the G-League, especially with the new NIL guidelines coming down, to where he might not lose as much as he thought by going the college route. At Tennessee, he spends that year in the public eye. In the G-League, he doesn't, but, on the hand, doesn't have to go to 8AM Spanish class., either.

This feels like Paulo Banchero 2.0. Elite Top 3 prospect, we will build some momentum and get some buzz, he might seriously consider us…..and then Duke swoops in with a phat bag of McDonald’s and commits out of nowhere. Lol.

I’m glad we’re at least giving it a try though. Keep this up long enough and eventually one of those guys might commit. Hopefully this one!

Bates is really talented, but I read somewhere that analysts feel that he didn’t progress very much in the past year and may have been surpassed as the #1 prospect in his class. Remember, his father started a new school (and team) just to publicize his kid, and the team faced weak competition during the year.
Perhaps, if his family decided he needs discipline and a stronger work ethic from a coach who is well known for instilling those characteristics in his players, UT might have a shot at this kid.
Otherwise, the drama associated with Bates and his entourage would not be worth it, IMO.

Today is rivals update day for Class of 2022, they announced Top 10 yesterday and Brandon Miller was #10. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if all our bolded guys moved up and the Clowney & Traore both enter the rankings.
