On Monday, the Pennsylvania Democrat was examined by Dr. Brian Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States Congress. On Wednesday, Monahan recommended that Fetterman seek inpatient treatment at Walter Reed.

'John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis,' Jentleson said. 'After examining John, the doctors at Walter Reed told us that John is getting the care he needs, and will soon be back to himself.'

What does the term "clinical depression" mean?

Depression ranges in seriousness from mild, temporary episodes of sadness to severe, persistent depression. Clinical depression is the more-severe form of depression, also known as major depression or major depressive disorder. It isn't the same as depression caused by a loss, such as the death of a loved one, or a medical condition, such as a thyroid disorder.

To diagnose clinical depression, many doctors use the symptom criteria for major depressive disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), published by the American Psychiatric Association.

Clinical depression can affect people of any age, including children. However, clinical depression symptoms, even if severe, usually improve with psychological counseling, antidepressant medications or a combination of the two.

@BowlBrother85 choice for Senate in Pennsylvania. Just imagine what his decisions are in the state of Tennessee. Fortunately they've probably all failed unless he votes for Steve Cohen.

Fwiw, in local elections, I usually do vote Republican. I vote for Tim Burchett.

In 2006, I voted for Bob Corker for Senate ... but that was because his opponent was Harold Ford Jr. and having lived in Memphis, I knew too much about the Ford family to vote for Harold Jr.

Puzzling to say the least but we could get more in depth other time. I voted for Ford, Jr btw.

I didn't even vote for Corker. He's a complete POS.

Seriously? Why?

I generally voted Democrat at that time. I know his family has a history of corruption but at the time I felt like he was his own man. Now I can't remember his policy positions. I just remember Corker trying to smear him with the Playboy story. I generally like listening to him now because he acts fairly level headed but I would be hardpressed to vote for him today because of the rest of the party. That is what hurt Bredesen. Tennesseans couldn't risk a Schumer vote.

Understatement of the year, Bidens, Trumps, can't hold a candle

I may not see things the way this guy does, but I feel sorry for him.
He had a stroke, right? My husband had some depression after his, it wasn’t pretty.. it can affect your relationships, your personality, everything (depending on where the infarcts occurred)

the Fetterman situation just shows how none of his families or friends looked out for his best interests. they should have advised him to drop out of the race and focus on his health.

hopefully he recovers

Family or friemds? Hell the Dem party didn't look out for his best interests
