2023 Americup ... USA Gamethread(s)

She has basically been USA's Tess Darby - simply launching threes and protecting the ball - but offering little as far as playmaking, creating offense for herself or teammates, or drawing fouls. That will obviously have to change when she arrives in Knoxville...
I'd say more than part of it has been the failure to pass her the ball when she is open and all the others so eager to launch a shot go one on three without a pass or even looking for an open player. The last game was more like a team than any of the others and she scored ten points on 4 of 8 from the field the most shots she has taken in any game. I am sure she will be a lot more active and involved at Tennessee cause a lot of it is other players getting you involved and not leaving you on an island. Hopefully for the rest of the tourney we'll pass the ball more to open players like the last game.

I’d say passing will become imperative the deeper we advance.

Yeah I think it's a little early to judge any of the guards. They seem to suffer the most fm lack of time together and fm lack of coaching direction. Apart fm Kelly forcing action unsuccessfully, none of them have done much to write home about. But Jewel has shot fairly well and had 3 big 3s when the Argentina game was close.

I mean we're over halfway through the tournament. In a rushed short-term setting like this, I think the guards are what they are and I wouldn't expect a huge jump....

Yes, pass it to Betts. No need to overcomplicate things...

Just get the ball moving. The ball won’t find the open player by itself.

Looks like the loss really put us to have to more than likely beat Canada and Brazil. If we win and Canada wins that seems to be who we play. If Brazil wins their two games that sets up the rematch. So were really going to earn this Gold Medal the hard way now hope we can play well enough to do it. The three point shooting has been terrible. Some teams have the ability to close down the inside game somewhat we will need some perimeter shooting efficiency.

The further this tournament progresses, the importance of TEAM basketball and efficiency increases. Hope everyone comes out focused later

Not sure if these ladies understand the high std of BB they are representing. USA BB is considered the best in the world and the best players. We get everybody's A+ game and its a big deal for another country to beat a USA BB team. Hope the coaches were able to get that point across to them after that bad lost to Brazil. Uphold the std ladies and bring home the gold.

Biggest problem is perimeter shooting as were not hitting a very high percentage and not stretching the defense so we can get the ball inside easier without turnovers. I think we win easily today then were in for some tough games.

they are playing players representing other teams that are in their late 30's
Brazil WILL be the ultimate test as they have age, depth and size

I definitely think that if Reese gets on track it could very well open things up for everyone else -- IF Kea STAYS on track as well -- so I agree the U.S. needs Angel to find her shot.

I'm hopeful, too, that perimeter shooting will get better as they spend more time preparing. Law of averages gives that possibility some legs.

This likely makes me a traitor, but I wouldn't offer any helpful advice on fundamentals to any of our main SEC competitors even if it means Team USA suffers.

If that sounds cynical, I just remind myself of all the resources available to her...NIL money, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, even THE Great Mulkey herself.
