Holly wasn't the next coming, but at .720 she still boasting a better percentage than Harper is currently at TN. Not sure this is the angle you want to go with Holly being shown the door.
Holly's successes came primarily in her first few years with players from Pat's tenure. Although recruiting of talent continued, the program got diminishing returns as we dropped out of the Top 25 and nearly missed the Tournament altogether in her final season.
The program has been trending upward each season under Kellie. The high school recruiting is a concern and the one area in which the Holly era was superior. Holly took over a stable program while Kellie took the reins at the program's low point in many decades.
I think most would agree that last season Kellie would likely have equaled Holly's best finish in the Elite Eight had Horston been available. Going 18-1 to begin the season without Burrell available was a pretty amazing feat.
We are all looking for consistent effort on both ends, good decision-making, poise and the ability to not panic, disciplined offense and defense, and execution of fundamentals in passing, ball handling, screening, defensive reactions, boxing out, & help, and court awareness. Too many teams with lesser talent exhibit that to expect any less. Barring serious injuries, we have the talent to develop the teamwork needed for a deep post-season run. Kellie's Mo State Sweet Sixteen team started that season with a series of losses, but they used them as learning experiences. The pressure there just to get into the tournament is greater in some respects since usually only the conference champion gets a bid.
As far as recruiting goes, it would be interesting to see if players' decisions were based more on their strong atrraction to what other schools offered (and long-established relationships with staffs) rather than negative reactions to what TN is offering.
