2023 Recruiting

This makes sense for several reasons. First, the LVs will be down to one PG (Brooklynn) and Velez can play the PG position well and she can score. Second, Velez can play the 2 and is scorer. Third, Velez is a very good defender. Fourth, and very important, recruiting Velez might help with recruitment of Del Rosario. Let's get them both.

Angelica Velez is ranked around #37 and a point guard ! She is very good on defense and she handles the ball really well! Offensively she needs some work ….. she can make the three point shot but is better at the 10–14 foot ! She has a tendency to make a lay up more difficult than necessary…. Getting in a hurry , and taking difficult shots when a calm routine pass or lay up would have been better . She was voted to the all tournament teams in district and regional!
And MVP in her district…. Her and Rosario have been rumored to want to play college ball together? Those two would make a good start to 2023 recruiting! Just Saying

I actually think Velez is a better player than Del Rosario. She is quick and plays hard the whole game. I saw them play in the state tournament this year. I thought Del Rosario played a little lazy. She drew contact but that was about it. I never saw her get an and one on any shot in the game I saw. However, I am basing this on one game as they eliminated my team. I will say this though, their coach is an A$$. He jawed with our fans the entire game and would point at the scoreboard. After the game, the players blew kisses at our student section. They were definitely a reflection of their POS coach.

I was at their state tournament game also . I watched them 4 or 5 other times and you are right about that final game ! She played really bad ….. Making charges (fouls) on multiple times when she has played a lot smarter games before! It was almost like she was trying to see if she could get away with playing like that ! As a result she spent most of her time on the bench ! Hopefully those two will have a better senior year ?

No it wouldn’t have been Kellie’s fault. It would’ve been understandable had they not stayed because that’s not who originally built the relationship and recruited them.

In my eyes, the coaching change didn’t really matter to TK or Jordan, I’m sure it helped that Kellie seems personable and fun to be coached by, but if the coach was the top priority for them, they would’ve left with Holly, like MiMi. No matter how one slices or dices it, I’ll forever look at both as Holly’s recruits.

I would guess that the coaching change did matter to them. how could it not? I would also guess that Kellie had to recruit them to stay, and did so successfully. I look at them as just as much Kellie's recruits as Holly's.

All these fas that kept saying Holly's recruits, do u think that when new coaches comes in all the players just say "yes we're staying"... Naw, that's not how it works. Eventhough they're not in portal. That coach has to sell her product to them and they come up with, I'm staying officially. Also, beginning of the season coach has to meet with the players again to see their faith. So, if Kellie recruited them to stay, she's the one that recruited them. What if entire players had left, same as she tried to keep Evina but her mind says no and she left her.

LOL April has not been kind to them lol they are spoiled id take appearing in a national championship game every day of the week
This is the second consecutive year that a LV has been drafted in the first round of the WNBA draft, with Rennia at #9 last year and Rae at #9 last night. In addition, the LVs may have as many three players--Jordan H, TK, and Rickea--to go inthe the first round of next year's draft. Future recruits, I hope, are taking notice.

They're not Harper's recruits and it's silly to suggest that they are. Recruiting and signing a prospect is the big job--takes many months of work--and a lot harder than persuading someone to stay. This isn't a knock on Harper, just a fact. She deserves some credit for persuading them to stay--if in fact they were thinking of leaving, and maybe they weren't--but that doesn't make them her recruits. And this is the big question: Can Harper recruit as the same level as Warlick? For now we know the answer to that question.

They’re definitely Harpers recruits. She has said numerous times that was priority number 1. She immediately went and recruited them herself and retained that class.

Just look at other coaches. Joni Taylor has lost all A&M signees as far as I can tell. Same with several other coaches. Keeping those players committed didn’t just happen.

I personally don’t give a good damn if Kellie can recruit like Holly because Kellie can coach. At least watching the games doesn’t make me want to barf or post about Pat rolling in her grave anymore.

We have acquired a relatively new poster who is an expert on everything wrong in every Tennessee sports team and coaches not just the Lady Vols. I reviewed recent posts and his/her wisdom is exceptional - wonder if she/he posts on NASCAR also?

Just one I thought there were several of them offering their expert advice and Lady Vol evaluation.

No, they are Holly’s recruits AND Kellie’s recruits. As others have pointed out, Kellie had to convince them to stay.

Jordy and Burrell did not look like they were headed for a high WNBA pick until Kellie helped develop them. This is a selling point for Kellie and staff.

Totally agree. You can see that even within our own program.

When I think of Rae I always think of Jamie Nared as well. Absolutely no reason she shouldn’t have been a wnba player. She never really improved her game under Holly though. She was the same player from freshman until she graduate. Had so much potential but was constantly misused in the offense.

I really think Jordan Reynolds could have been a pro as well. She had a great body for a point guard but again, just never improved at 3-4 small things that could have put her in that conversation.

Jordan Reynolds is the PG. Yes, she never got better in 4 years. She didn't seem particularly driven to do so either. She still got drafted...either 2nd or 3rd round, but cut in training camp and never played a game in the league.

Nared was a WNBA draft pick and I think she played 1 year in the league (with the Aces) before getting cut in training camp the next year. Another one who Holly failed to develop...
