2023 Target List

My highest level of ball is HS varsity in Indianapolis and I can 100% do this, along with every other dude I grew up hooping with. Mikey isn't some generational ball handler/ footwork specialist lol.
Ok, we’ll see. Never said his ball handling was good BTW. It’s probably the most average part of his game.

He was not the primary ballhandler at Lake Norman and is not the primary ballhandler at Vertical Academy but has plenty of opportunities to handle the ball in the halfcourt.
In isolation, Williams is more naturally inclined to look for the pull-up. His footwork is pretty sleek, and he has proven himself capable of creating good separation via side-steps and step-backs. He has deep range but is more of a streaky shooter, testing as more of a volume shot taker than a volume shot maker at this point.
His handle is not all that advanced, but he has a quick first step and can blow by similar-sized defenders in his age group on a straight line.”

I’m willing to give them a pass on fall of 2022 in the regards to making some definitive statement that they’re busts as recruiters…in retrospect maybe they should’ve taken some of the lower ranked guys and you’d feel better? Of course if you do that you aren’t sitting here with 4 spots and room to add the pieces we are looking at, so which was the correct move?

I’m sure people won’t give much credit for however they fill these last 4 spots, they’ll poo-poo key, say instead of Collins we should’ve gotten Pack, if we land Phillips they’ll say it’s just 1 guy. 2023 likely has a lot of open spots it would appear as of today, they’re gonna have to sign some guys in the fall, if they whiff in the fall as I have already stated then I will worry.
I've never seen you make that last statement anywhere else. If that's your stance, I'll call that reasonable while also believing it's equally reasonable to be mildly concerned at this point. I've certainly yet to call Clark or Gainey busts as recruiters, but they need to reverse the early trends, IMO.

It was the exact language in this post but it was my meaning/feelings…

I’d like to see how 2023 class goes, or portal/close of 2022 at least…Oliver, English, Schwartz etc we’re all here minimum 2 years, Clark & Gainey might be coming up on a year. I don’t recall English being hired and players flocking to Knoxville, same for Schwartz or Oliver, seems like relationships got built and the fruit of their labor was seen down the road. English gets credit for Chandler but we were sitting good before that hire, he just happened to be the guy who took leas when moves were made, but that was a full staff effort.

Tennessee is in a great spot with quite a few 2023 kids, so like I said I’d like to see how that goes.

On the VQ podcast today, they alluded to UT likely scouting and possibly getting some European players in this class.
Ive wanted us to land more Euro players for a long time. Until recent years its like we never looked across the waters while other schools were spending lots of time overseas. Like Gonzaga. Euro big men seem to have the stretch NBA skills we need.

I wish we would just recruit the first to the last 4 star players. I think for the most part you waste year time with 5 star kids. Look at the teams that win natties. Mostly 3 and 4 stars. They 5 stars they have are multi year ones.

Didn’t Kansas just win? They’re not known for taking low ranked kids and developing them. There has been some programs do quite well without 5* recruits, but most of the top programs attract a few

If I remember correctly, someone posted on here or elsewhere the number of stars each final four team had. Kansas had a whole team of 4* players, I think like 10-11 lol. I don't think they had any 5 stars.

I did a quick Google and the first thing that came up was this year’s commitments 2 of which were 5*’s. If they were getting out of the 5 star business in the past, then they’re jumping back in

This is absurd. You take the best talent any day of the week. The likely hood of developing low rated players into elite players is rare.

Neither of them should be 5 star. Should both be high 4 stars imo
