2023 Target List

Any of those guys OV? I think Glenn did but for a guy reclassifying to 2022 you can imagine he likely had a relationship further down the line with others.
They all have visited unofficially, I'm pretty sure, but that is really just an additional qualifier you're using. We were in it pretty extensively for all those guys.

Just admit that recruiting has taken a step down. It isn't the end of the world to admit that not everything is perfect in Tennessee basketball. Your refusal to at least express concern when it's warranted is what makes people think you lack the perspective to be be objective.

And admitting as much doesn't mean you have to go into full-blown freak out mode like so many of the goons on this board do. I'm not freaking out. I just recognize a situation where there seems to be a current dip. If it reverses course, I'll credit the assistants I'm currently admonishing and give them their due. Hopefully, I get the opportunity to do that.

I don't think BTO is capable of expressing concern about the program in any facet. I would say that my general level of "concern" in regards to recruiting is just a 6. Nothing too bad, but it does give me pause that we haven't landed any big recruits since Aidoo and he pretty much fell in our lap as you said.

In the short term, I don't think it is a big deal. Plenty of names left on the board. But, it doesn't feel like there is a whole lot of momentum with anyone outside of Key/Collins right now.

I think I can agree with BTO while also understanding where cnc is coming from. For myself, I think I’ll reserve judgment until Phillips and some others make their decision
Yeah, to be clear, I've had these opinions for many months, now, going back to last fall. This isn't some snap judgement from me. It has developed over time. And sure, they can win me back by landing Phillips, Reneau, etc. I'm not digging in my heels and refusing to be swayed back in favor of them. I just haven't seen much progress in a year's time to say to myself, "Man, we upgraded" when we replaced Des Oliver and Kim English.

The 2022 class definitely took a step down, but it was only 3 years prior that the 2019 class included only 1 Top 150 guy and the year before that we signed a 1 man class with not a single Top 100 player…so how much of a step down was/is the 2022 class really? Especially considering it very well may not even be complete?

As for official/unofficial, Tennessee brings in OV’s they are serious about mutually, they’ll allow just about anyone to UOV, that’s why I added that in there. I haven’t really seen Tennessee Miss on top 2023 guys, that’s why I asked, it likely will be a decently sized class so should be plenty of chances to hit or miss on guys in the class. Other than Glenn I don’t really recall us being that deep/serious in it with any one those guys, and I recall questions around Glenn because at that time we were looking at higher ranked guys for 2022.

We have 4 open scholarships, so we are gonna have to “recruit” to fill out this roster, if we whiff on targets there will be plenty of concern and 2023 class will be even more important at that point…imo at this point it’s still TBD.

Come on...we have already whiffed on numerous 2022 kids. I have given the list multiple times, so I won't do it again, but it is around 10 kids. The only kid we signed lives 15 minutes from campus. There is enough evidence just in the 2022 class to be concerning. And again, concerning doesn't equal freaked out, but you can't pacify my concerns by openly admitting that recruiting has taken a step back in 2022, and then sugarcoat it in the same sentence. Either it has fallen off or it hasn't.

Now, sure, in 2022, thanks to the transfer portal and coaching changes, we get a mulligan on some kids that we missed on or have scouted throughout college basketball. It's why I'm not completely off the rails because we have a chance to build our roster in more creative ways than we did three years ago.

I think the problem is that I'm talking more big picture issues, and you are focused on the short-term plugs in the dam. And if that is what it takes to get our legs underneath us on the recruiting front, then so be it. As I said earlier, I can be won back to the flock. But, our new assistants were brought in with the reputation of being great recruiters with tons of connections. I wouldn't think those kinds of people would need a two-year running start to make waves.

I doubt Mikey is a culture fit at Tennessee if I'm being honest. I know you love him, but I don't think it would be a very good marriage.
More than likely not. I’d like to at least get him on campus though. Maybe him and Barnes click. Opposites attract lol

Mikey's never going to pan out post HS. He's already peaked.
I mean, if he’s peaked he’s good enough right now to probably go to the NBA. He could play the rookie Anfernee Simons role and probably even contribute more than he did. His footwork is next level.

He's an undersized 2 guard that's been the same size his whole HS career and is a year older than his class. He got exposed by our own BJ Edwards. There's a reason big time programs aren't actively recruiting him.

Mikey’s height is gonna hurt him. if he would’ve ended up about 6’4-6’5, he would’ve been a future nba star.
