I think it’s a pretty poor comparison to compare Tennessee Basketball with UK Football. We by no means are an elite and blue blood program, and I acknowledge and understand that, but our basketball program has a lot more history than the Kentucky Football team. Their success has largely been a 5-6 year period. We’ve had a lot more and longer stints of being relevant.
Just my opinion.
Their success has largely been a 5-6 year period, but when do you start recruiting kids? Around 15 or so. How much success does a kid care about that happened when they were 8 or younger? How much do they even remember? A 5-6 year period is all that is relevant to most of these kids unless you are talking a national championship or some elite all time player. Unfortunately our only uber stud that has withstood the test of time is Bernard King and most kids today don't even know who that is unless they are from NY or heavy into basketball history.
For all intents and purposes, a high school recruit seeing 5-6 years of success is practically success over their whole life. You have to remember who you are selling to here.
