As for the current team the Vols will have a closed scrimmage against Indiana in the preseason this year. That will take place behind closed doors in Knoxville in October. With classes starting back up this week the entire team has re-assembled after some guys took the opportunity to get away for a quick break earlier in the month.
At this stage the offseason work is focused on individual sessions with players working on specific skill sets. As we always note, no one ever says ‘you know, we just had a terrible offseason.’ With that said, there’s a real feeling around the program that this was a good summer for the team.
Not that anyone has ever described Rick Barnes style as ‘soft,’ but according to some he might have even cranked things up a notch this summer in terms of making things tough on his guys. The word is that what is always a tough offseason program went to another level for this group.
Part of that is that this is a veteran group with only one freshman on the roster. Secondly, with so many veteran transfers expected to be huge pieces of the puzzle, getting as much out of the summer was always going to be a big deal.
