2024 Presidential Race

Question….how do these policy positions help Trump directly?

1) no tax on tips
2) no tax on Social Security
3) Closing the border wall
4) ”drill baby drill” lowering fuel costs for all Americans
5) lowering federal Tax on all Americans

1. Win NV
2. Win AZ
3. Would have done first time. If serious about immigration, he would have enforced actual rules against ag and construction (R) industries...
4. Im with him on energy
5. How does increasing deficit lower inflation without spending cuts?

No tax on tips isnt going to happen. Just because I propose it... Bad tax policy while we are at it

Cutting regulations/govt interference on energy industry is a good thing. But cutting regulations isnt a core belief since he has several contradictory pledges that increase regulations/interference...

Cut all regulations/interference would be a core belief...

“I hate everyone! I can’t tell you who my realistic candidate would be that I would support. I can’t give you any realistic solutions to the problems we face. I just like to bitch about everything”. This doesn’t just pertain to the person you quoted on here.
Agree.

We only have 2 real choices to vote for in November. That is just the way it is. One is a socialist/communist ticket and the other is Trump. Hopefully people will put the past and their emotions aside to see the stark policy differences between these 2 candidates.

Tipping is absurd anyway. I get that it is nice to throw someone a little extra when they go above and beyond, but it is to the point of being pressured to not only tip, but to tip up to %30.
Trump should be pushing for congress to pass a law where companies can no longer pay less than minimum wage and let the market dictate workers wages.

The FICA Tip Credit is absurd. Bad tax policy. Government shouldnt be subsidizing the restaurant industry.

Im fine with eliminating taxes on SS (or only taxing once you get to the point of taking out more than you put in). Return of capital should never be taxable. Gains should be....

How can you advocate for a min wage but also claim to want the market to dictate wages?

When I waited tables the wage was never even considered since I made more than enough to cover it. I could make a years rent in a couple of UT GameDay weekends.

@volfanhill @DinkinFlicka ,
If the government required restaurants and bars to pay full minimum wage, what's the increase in ticket prices you'd expect to offset the payroll increase?

Under that system, would tipping still be permitted? Would the restaurant / bar keep the tips, split tips with waitstaff, or allow staff to keep all tips?

I'm not saying to pay them the minimum. I'm saying don't let them pay less and expect the consumer make up the difference.

So have the govt create an artificial wage floor using min wage? That's not allowing the market to decide

I still believe most servers would prefer tips over min wage. Good ones will always make more that way. You're just rewarding the mediocre ones

I think Elon sums it up very well here.

The big issue facing our country is National Debt but we are talking about everything but it. Problem is that we have golden cows that we as, individuals, would have to sacrifice to make things solvent again. Look at Greece when they went through their austerity as an example.

So how will the voters react to Walz’s affinity for horses? This is way worse than his stolen valor problem.

It would probably be less than %20.

Better servers will go to places that pay better. Places with better service will have more customers.

I am dubious. If the payroll only went to minimum, 20% maybe possible. Seems low to me though.

To wait tables for minimum wage, the juice isn't worth the squeeze. About a third of the customers are problems but they will crush your soul.

So, if tips are not part of the mix, I don't think restaurants will find waitstaff when they can work easier jobs for same money.

My guess would be around a 23% increase. We wouldnt pay full minimum wage. We woud have to pay more. Credit card tip average is a little higher than 19%. So we would translate that over. Then I would expect a slight increase in turnover that we would have to account for. Top performers moving on to sales positions else where bc they would be taking a pay cut. In todays tipping culture I suspect we would still have a tip line on credit card slips. We would probably pool those and distribute accross all staff. Help promote team work etc.. If the tipping culture of the American consumer disappeared then we would dump it. That's if tip wages weren't part of the equation.

Just to go to minimum wage plus tips my guess would be 5-8%. Depends on where you live. We would absolutely have a tip line. Servers would keep it. Otherwise your service would be garbage.

Sort of answered that strangely. Sorry. I misinterpreted the question. I skimmed it at first

I see you failed to mention spending cuts or immigration reform. Sure it was an oversight

They already do that but it's just based on possible tips. How does this change anything except where the money comes from? I can't see this as a positive for the good servers

Are servers generally offered any benefits from the restaurants where they work? Probably a better question for @DinkinFlicka . It would seem that if they aren't given any other benefits, that they could be considered individual contractors to that restaurant and somehow garner better? tax treatment, while also having to pay SSA and all that stuff that an 'employer' normally pays.

That's in line with what Sandman offered.

Thanks for the answer.
