It’s not just they INCLUDE them. They often let them steer the ship. Since Bill Clinton, no real centrist Democrat has had a shot at the nomination. No one in the party today would sign welfare reform or call for abortion to be “safe, legal, and RARE”.
The inmates are running the asylum. And I hate to see it, because America NEEDS a second, progressive party.

And THAT right there tells you more than anything else how the parties have switched places in the past 20 years. Democrats are the party of the wealthy and powerful and the Republicans are the party of the working man. The world has indeed turned upside down.
Saw a poll today of Teamsters membership. In 49 out of 50 states (Hawaii being basically a toss up); Trump leads Harris.
Basically the democrats made a choice around the start of the Obama years to trade the blue collar vote for the coastal over educated elites. And now it is coming back to bite them. They just thought they could take workers for granted.

And the Republicans can't stand feeding the poor, housing the homeless or treating the sick. Among other things. Love your neighbors as long as they are not Asian Hispanic Arabic or black. Or poor especially poor.

The Republican Jesus would have charged for the fish on the mountain. No free rides here, then he would have sold sandals and bibles.

You are simply talking straight numbers without acknowledging how unnecessary the increased spending during Trump's first two years in office was. He can't just blame Democrats (or COVID) for that either. That was pre-COVID and Republicans were in control of both chambers of Congress during those years. The deficits were exacerbated by his tax cuts as well. Trump was fiscally irresponsible and it contributed to inflation.
