2024 Transfer Portal Thread

It’s getting to the point where not having a chance to be top five seems like a miss. Damnit Barnes!

Hope Dubar is the first domino of several.

First domino, boom! Like bTo said we got 5 spots even with Awaka returning... use 'em up. If Dubar wants to be here and understands he'll have to work his tail off to get minutes and he still wants to do it, I'm excited for him to be a Vol.
With Awaka back we would have 4 spots available

Sr Zakai Zeigler

Sr Jordan Gainey

Sr Jahmai Mashack

Sr Darlinstone Dubar

Jr Tobe Awaka

So Cameron Carr

So Cade Phillips

So JP Estrella

Fr Bishop Boswell

Wasn't counting Dubar... but it's now 4 with him committing.
Yessir! My opinion I think three of them will be: a SG, a Stretch big, a project incoming freshman big like the Tamba guy , and other side I think the other one will be determined by Awaka returning or not... I still think Awaka will be a Vol. This will be a great year Go VOLS

So, I haven't seen anything officially mentioned about Awaka returning. Is this wishful thinking by others?

With the 4 remaining I'd say we'll be looking for a wing who can shoot (Tyson is the #1 there) and then a stretch 4 that can play the 5 (Igor high on the list and visiting tomorrow) and then I'd say with the other 2 spots they'd like to add a backup PG option (Lanier/Gayle) and then maybe a big, might not be a transfer but a late '24 addition.

Tyson is beginning to sound like Holman in baseball. He was ours but LSU got the last visit and then he wasn't ours.

BS
Yep. Dubar was shorter than advertised, had a low release point that wouldn't translate so well in this league(IIRC) and didn't have a committable offer yesterday. Now he's on board. So I guess that means Tyson is gone? What role does Dubar fill? Is he a shorter JJJ? Does he replace Knecht as a 3? Do we see him at the 2? Lanier gone, too? Not sure how to take this one. This old head is spinning.

They must feel good about JP to not go after any top Centers

Lanier/Gayle are Vescovi replacement type players... They are true shooting guards... Not saying they can't help handle the rock, but they are true 2's... Malik Mack is a true point guard type ... But yeah I could see this happening. That incoming freshman Gabriel Mabor guy seems like a get for the VOLS

We reached out to Rutgers big Cliff Omoruyi, Somto Cyril, JCJ from MTSU, and Igor Milicic Jr from Charlotte... That's 4 bigs for sure that we've contacted.

JP Estrella will prolly follow suit his soph season with minutes similar to Awaka & Aidoo soph mins anywhere between (13-18 mpg)

So much for the insiders here😂😂

“He came in ready to commit but measured under sized and left without a commitable offer.”

Both of those are true statements, according to multiple sources on VN and outside of VN. No need to come in here taking shots at guys who have brought us good info for years over a transfer outcome changing over the course of a few hours. The info was right, it just changes on a dime in recruiting.

You've not watched any film on either if you think that's the case. Neither are true PGs, but ZZ is going to play 30+ minutes so it's going to be pretty rare anyone else runs the point. Just need someone that can bring it up a few times a game when ZZ needs a break.

Mack would obviously be a better backup PG option, but I don't know where we are with him...

Mabor is definitely the project big outta HS I think they'd love to get and let him potentially RS (if Awaka is back).

Igor at the 4 and Omoruyi at the 5. We walk away with the championship next year.

A 6’10 guy that can shoot, then a 6’11 guy that was top 5 in blocks, jumps out the gym, and rebounds
