2024 Transfer Portal Thread

Mashack should get another 5 minutes with Vescovi, JJJ, and Knecht all exiting getting lots of playing time at similar spots. And experience in the system is very important to have on the floor.
Yeah but Barnes had clearly stated this offseason that he is looking for more offensive efficiency and consistent scoring from his players and especially starting line up. I just don't see Shack making that big of a jump in his scoring to play 25 plus. I can see his minutes staying around the same. 18 to 20 minutes. It really just depends on Carr, Gainey and Boswell development IMO.

IMO if JM only gets 18 minutes it’s because he’s putting in so much effort playing defense that he has to sit. But I think it will be 25. He’s in excellent condition. His senior leadership is critical. They can manage his minutes by taking him out just before media time outs therefore giving him the most rest while the clock isn’t running. Barnes isn’t about to sacrifice defense for more offense. Any his scoring isn’t necessary - just being a threat to score if ignored by defenders is enough and I think he’s very capable of that.

I'm sorry but unless Shacks offense drastically improves I just don't see him playing 25 plus minutes a game that's just me. Averaged 4.5 points at 18 minutes a game last season. Keep in mind Barnes won't be depending so much on small ball like he's normally done the last couple seasons. Just looking for discussion and would like to hear everyone's thoughts on the matter. Go!
More than minutes, he’s in line to take more shots. He had really good percentages last year so if he’s able to just maintain those on higher volume you’ll have a pretty good offensive player.

No axe to grind boys.

Just new to this place and find it funny that I can see it and you all cant.

That says a lot about you all.

Not me.

Im not here to make enemies.

Im just here to talk UT mens sports.

No axe to grind but then you pretty much say we're all blind and we're the problem, not you.

Then claim you're not here to make enemies. You sure have a stupid way to not do that.

But it's nice to watch a Dunning-Kruger effect happening in real time.

Key word in bold.

Shack is a 43.2% FG shooter, a 46.5% 2 PT shooter and a 33.8% 3PT shooter and this year he shot 72% from the FT. He simply has filled the role asked for him to play these first 3 years here. Don't know if he's going to be asked to become a 1st or 2nd scoring option, but if he becomes a starter I could see him being able to fill the role that Santi/JJJ held as the 4th option and sometimes 3rd option.

You have to expect ZZ & Lanier will likely be 1 & 2 and then Dubar and Igor both are capable of being a 3rd option or even 2nd. So it's unlikely that Barnes will sacrifice defense and experience (what Mashack brings) for a bit better scoring option (if Carr or Gainey are even that).
