2024 Transfer Portal

Other fan bases are often worse toward transfers.

The way they posted that lacked tact, but it isn’t untrue. It was inevitable we’d have to turn over some of the current roster to get more quickness and athleticism.

Karo will hopefully be great somewhere else, but she’s made her decision and it’s likely she wasn’t going to be a good fit with the new staff and playing style. Not an aggressive enough rebounder for what CKC is looking for imo.
If it lacked tact why did you “like” a snarky jerk post?
So if other fan bases are worse that makes that post okay?

They don’t have to sit out multiple time transfers are free game bc of court… and their coach was fired so that a different waiver

I don’t like jumping into speculative conversations with no backing… but ive heard rumbling around team culture and think a few won’t be able to handle Kim. There were clear problems with culture under previous

I too have a different list of players who maybe aren’t fits but won’t post bc it’s pointless
Oh, clear culture problems? What program have you been watching?

Because it’s not untrue. It’s just the reality of sports sometimes. Some roster turnover was going to be necessary to ensure we have the pieces we need to play the way CKC coaches next season.

I have no doubt these ladies would give their all, but for some of them the new system is going to be like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

You know. The players were too nice, too friendly, and got along with each other far too much.

Honestly though? Sometimes that is a problem. I remember playing on all sorts of teams. The most successful one I was ever on none of us were very friendly with each other, but we were all competitive, wanted to win and had a common goal.

We were not chilling outside of practice though. Guarantee you that lol.

It's gonna take me a while to get over Karo leaving. She's definitely one of those "if I'd had a daughter I'd have wanted her to be like Karoline" kinda kids. It's brutal out there!

As for Sara, I'm lighting candles later to the basketball gods that she'll just break up with that guy and focus on basketball. lol
Should everyone break up with who they’re dating to focus on basketball, or are u just saying only Sara should do it?

That is not a lie. Thinking about the late 90s football teams, there may have been respect but not a lot of buddy buddy stuff going on.

We’re gonna see a lot more 3 and sometimes 4 guard sets I think.
It’s going to much less traditional that we are used to at UT.
I figure she has to be at the two with Spear. Seems 20 minutes is a lot of playing time in this system so that certainly could be the case of the position. Point guard will really be squeezed if McQueen or some other player comes on board. JMO I think the job could go to Cooper and McQueen if she transfers here and that leaves Boyd and Wells without much time on the court.
Rather than positions, think in terms of what skill sets are needed on court every minute to play CKC's game. We've heard her describe it as "lots of shots taken" and "the ball will be crossing the half court line a lot!" That means after opposing shots, in transition, or off of steals, the ball needs to get to an open player behind the 3-point line ASAP, before defenders get back or into position.

So I doubt whether--in transition or after a turnover--any Lady Vol will be instructed to first "get the ball into the point guard's hands." Instead, it will be "get the ball downcourt and into the hands of someone open and ready to shoot if you don't have the shot yourself."

That kind of play puts a premium on every player having some basic point guard skills, even our "bigs."

My impression is that our girls will be coached to consider that--unless it's a skip pass to an open shooter--any lateral pass or movement is an opportunity lost.

I’m fine with changes so long as we still have the bodies to guard in the half court game. Teams will break the press ya know.

suspense! it also makes me feel a bit greedy 😂 first i wanted to know coaches, then i wanted visits, and now i want commits. will i ever be satisfied 😱
Yeah, it would be nice to get that momentum started. I noticed that Lazo also started following Lattimore and Day Wilson from Miami, the guard from Tulsa and McLean from Virginia recently. Not sure of mutual interest but Lattimore did follow him back.

LOL--bless your heart, brittannica!

I'd prescribe everyone watch Hitchcock movies 'til your mind associates suspense with the promise of forthcoming satisfaction. 😟 ... 😯 ... 😲 ... 😌😌😌

". . . any lateral pass or movement is an opportunity lost."

Tell that to Auriemma or Norman Dale. It is not that simple.

Latham did average 1.2 steals and 1.3 blocks per game as a freshman, which would have led our teams in steals and second in blocked shots, so we know she can guard. Nye averaged 1.8 steals a game.

players I think are 100% staying (or have already said so)

Spear
Cooper
Boyd
Wynn
Wells (hardest one for me to decide but I think she fits really well with CKC and the way she wants to play)
Darby Sisters

Players I think could be on the fence
Puckett
Hollingshed
Strickland
Those on the fence don’t really fit the system and especially the defense that coach wants to run

Yes, they'll break the press, maybe as much as 80% of the time. But each time they don't becomes +2 in the possessions column for us.

I saw postgame video after maybe a championship game when she was coaching at Glenville State, after they'd evidently had a horrible night shooting.

But they had 40 more possessions than the other team -- and won despite the lousy shooting.

The game we'll watch next season will look as different from last season's as did Heupel's first season from Cornbread's last.
