He wants to compete and compete now. An AD isn’t going to say “I hope we can get somewhere around 3rd-5th and be competitive”
I could agree he was intentionally vague about "competing" if not for the part about not on a 2, 3, or 4 year plan. To me that was specifically saying no rebuild, but in the mix w SC, Texas, and LSU immediately. Which realistically, is crazy.

Dauda looks good on paper. 6'4", has two yrs of elig, avg 10 pts, 6 reb, 2 blks. 45% fg shooter, 31% 3 pt shooter though I doubt she shot many. 71% ft shooter. Lots to like there.

She was 29-91 it’s easy to lookup. She shot a lot of 3s for a player her size and made them at a good percentage. She would be an excellent get for any team.

I don’t think Coach Caldwell has the same mindset. Ready for the season to start so she can serve you a whole bunch of crow every week.

He’s setting expectations. Tennessee has the resources, facilities and money to compete with anyone from day 1 in any sport.

I agree he set that expectation. But you still have to have the players and I still think it's unrealistic for the upcoming season and would have been no matter who the coach was. We'll see, and I hope I'm wrong.

“As a women’s basketball program, we want to get back to competing for Southeastern Conference and National Championships,” White said in Caldwell’s introductory press conference. “Our student-athletes have that ambition, and we are not on a three-, four- or five-year plan; they talked about wanting to win next year. We wanted to make sure we are positioning ourselves to be competitive right away.”

White is saying he expects the team to be competitive immediately. In context of Kellie’s last two seasons, I don’t think he meant he expects us to win it all next year. He means we need to win close games, at least win one of two with top SEC teams, to be in the SEC championship final. Next season.

I think he meant being in contention for a conference title at the very least. And not just winning 1 or 2 games against top teams, he thinks we should be a top team and that’s how I feel as well.

Didn't all of these things happen in 2023? Improvement should surpass this IMO

No. I gave those very few metrics as examples of what I think he probably means. We lost to Alabama when we really should have beaten them twice. We lost to South Carolina several times, one we should have won. We lost to LSU. We didn’t go to the SEC final game. We didn’t get to the Sweet 16. The heart of his message is that we need to compete.

I watched Dauda play two seasons against Tennessee.

I don’t have much to say..
She played all of 2 minutes against us in the regular season in her freshman year. This season, she was in foul trouble but still managed 10 and 5, though she didn't shoot super well.

You downed her and Nye both. Who do you ACTUALLY like?

He likes whoever we get, if we don’t get them they aren’t very good.

He could also have been dismissing the 5 year plan he had just let go…
