Yep. Which highlights the concern(s) that in doing so you give up a certain amount of rebounding and defense from that spot (compared to a traditional 4) in return for basically one dimension of offense because you would be sacrificing offense in the paint from your 4. It's a lot to give up just to have a viable 3 pt shooter at the 4 spot. I understand the LV offense is going to be sort of positionless going forward, so maybe these traditional ways of looking at positions don't relate here.
Yeah too much traditionalism for sure. She loves to spread and iso late in clocks so I don’t see it being a problem losing inside scoring. Esp on a short rotation

Agree to partially disagree. I love Jewel, so glad she stayed, but IMO her athleticism is one click below, which is why she could do the things you describe against lesser teams, but struggled to do it consistently against the better teams. But everyone doesn't have to have the same degree of athleticism. IMO the place Jewel is really going to have to get after it this summer is conditioning and defense. I'm sure she will and will have a great Sr season.
You are spot on someone else who is big on fabrications needs to realize that Jewel is a good player but not elite

Last sentence not true.

DW said no 2, 3, or 4 yr plan on "competing" and moving from good (current) to great (expected). That means better results next yr.

I agree he didn't really mean it and shouldn't have said it. Should have left it vague at "competing" and not added a one yr timetable. But he did say it.
I actually have no problem with him setting high expectations, you don’t need to be comfortable at all and think u can just get any players and see how it goes like we’ve done in the past. The pressure will make sure u get the best of the s]best because you know you job is on the line right away.

Unless you're defender doesn't let you get to the bucket at will and you also have poor 3 pt shooting. It's risky.

Can someone recommend a Marshall game that's available to watch that is a good example? And not Va Tech, which I won't watch bc I'm really trying here.

Latham and Puckett are more suited for the four. Darby can't play there not a rebounder can't defend that position. She will play when she plays probably three. I would give her about 10 to 12 at the two even though no position really suits her in this system.
Ik tess is tennessee through and through but i really think she shouldve got in the portal i jus dont see how she fits in the scheme of things hopefully im wrong....

I watched the James Madison game (title game for their conference). I assume that’s emblematic of what CKC does, but others might know better. Def do not recommend the Va Tech game. It soured my partner on her irreparably.

Agree to disagree. There are times motivational hyperbole is called for. The introductory presser for a new coach who's never coached at this level and who's facing the challenges this season is going to bring is not the time. That's the time for under promise and over deliver. Give the bombast a little rest and be supportive yet realistic.

Well they don’t want to get late into it.. it’s more about get a shot up and press down the floor even if nominal. She values offense rebounders. Listen to her interviews she explains a lot

I can see her sliding with each committ but right now her three point shooting keeps her in the rotation JMO.
I think her 5th year status really hurts her. Esp being a non system fit. Unless they find that fit and she adapts.

Again idk what CKC will do or is doing but just a guess based on who she’s brought in

PG-Cooper Wells Wynn Boyd
SG-Spear Darby Strickland
C-Spearman Hollingshead
PF-Latham Puckett
WF-Whitehorn

We get Muhammad or another center move Puckett to the three and Hollingshead to the four.
We need to get a starting Pg and a Center, if we get Whitehorn I think we can go 3 guards in the starting lineup Pg, Spear, Whitehorn, Latham and Canter.

I suspect Tess may have taken a role as team Mom, leader, culture insuror and contributor on the floor where she can. Basically what she ended up doing last year, only probably more so. Nothing wrong w that.

But not based on size apparently. Is it position? Just board crashing? How do the army of 6 ft guards and wings get O boards?

I'm going to watch a game I promise.
Not any to watch really. I watched the Wake Forest game and Marshall shot the ball so badly it wasn't much to see. She really didn't have any great athletes at Marshall. I would say Hayes was her best player. How they won 27 was purely on team play. They really had no shooters or post players, but they won just by getting more shots in most of their wins.

They got 82 possessions against Va Tech and Tech 67 and shot 24 percent of that 82 possessions and lost by 40.

I don't see her starting but she will get some backup minutes at this point. We get two more guards of better ability Tess and Ace could be looking at a lot of bench time.

Extra possessions coming on creating turn overs and rebounding?

Again, that seems so risky against teams (and there are many) too good or well coached to be turned over, or whose size keeps you off the boards.

Call me old fashioned, but I'd like an offense where you can also count on hitting good shots to score if forced to do so.

No doubt a new system plus being more of the go to player can help her achieve that status
Being the go to has it's downside too, which is you get full time defensive attention. Which Jewel got right off the bat last season when Rickea was out. However, I'm getting fm the new system there really isn't a "go to". Everyone is encouraged to just shoot as much as possible and crash for a possible second chance.

I agree with this. I do not believe Jewel was used properly for the majority of the season and you could tell it hindered her game to a degree.

Elite! She could average anywhere from 15-20 ppg this season. Averaged 16 pts and led the ACC in scoring as a sophomore. Some of these fanatics need to learn the definition of words if they think anyone is fabricating about Jewel Spear’s skill-set.

It’s a reason she set the SEC tourney record for most threes made in a game her first at Tennessee.
