2025 NCAA WBB Tournament non LV games and news

I hate TN because I grew up hating them, but I will say that my hatred doesn't really burn so bright now after all of these years. I feel as though nowadays I can sit back and appreciate what TN has gone through to build their program back up. As we've seen with Baylor, ND, and Stanford (for example), it's not so simple to replace a great coach on a storied program. And I like what CKC has done so far.

That said, it's still fun to snark. I never take anything actually seriously. But I still always want UConn to beat the LVs -- and yes, I am still mad we lost to them this season -- and I never want to see the LVs win another title (;)). However, I have only really "hated" TN because they were a respected rival; obviously Pat did so much for the game and paved the way for programs like UConn et al. And she was gone much too soon. :(

(But whenever I am out and about and see someone with Vols attire or a sticker on their car, I roll my eyes and go, "ugh, a Tennessee fan !!!")
One of us! (…kinda) 😉🤙🏼

Not "hatred" per se,. More strong dislike

About 75% Auriemma (Too much ancient history to relate).

The rest is probably due to having Conn being the top program re: championships. Call it envy or ambition. Hard to give up the throne, especially when our iconic coach was taken away from us. Remember that we still had the championship lead when Pat had to step down.
Oh, believe me...I always give Pat her due when talking to other uconn fans. I'm a lot like Rooster in that respect...he's no Geno fan but always gives him a ton of credit for what he's done over the years. A great coach is a great coach...I don't care what team they are coaching. It's too bad she cancelled the games with uconn though because those games are what everyone wanted to see. And yes, I agree Geno was a cocky ass and really went overboard with Pat. However, the best way to shut up a cocky ass is to whip his ass on the court! I always blamed the cancellation on her illness. Not sure if the cancellation coincided with the start of her symptoms or not, but I always believed her when she said "for the good of the game". She seemed like too much of a competitor to just cancel the greatest rivalry in WCBB. And it was, without a doubt, the greatest. Nothing will ever come close to UCONN/TENNESSEE.

She canceled the match up games because of his recruiting practices. Why would you play against him when he took a recruit away from you and let him use THAT RECRUIT against you ! Take your illegal gotten recruits and play somebody’s else …,, There is a truth to this story that I have no clue as to what really happened! This is just my opinion of the story? 🤷‍♂️

From what I remember, they investigated the complaint and found nothing. They only found that uconn scheduled a visit for Maya to tour espn. If he did what you believe he did, he would have been suspended at the very least. There are probably a lot of crooked coaches out there, but honestly, he does not strike me as one of them. Again, a cocky ass in his prime, but not crooked.

Blaming the Alzheimers isn't right, nor is it fair to Pat. And the ESPN accusation wasn't even the largest part of why Summitt did what she did. Some of us here know, or perhaps it is more fair to say believe, a wider set of claims. And that those claims were what prompted her reaction.

I'm not saying this to relitigate the matter, but just to clarify. I don't think revisiting it now is going to change anyone's mind about anything.

You are absolutely right about that...I'm sure everyone has an opinion and they're not going to change their mind. But honestly only Geno knows what he did or didn't do and only Pat knows why she cancelled the games. So, we as fans can only speculate. It did appear that they ended up "friendly" and the animosity between them seemed to be gone.

I know Uconn is favored by 7-8 tonight over UCLA, and I would agree they should be favored, no team is playing better right now. However, the more I consider this game, the more I begin to believe that the Bruins are built to pull off the upset here. Certainly they will have a size advantage at almost every position, and UCLA should be able to find success in the post. The key for the Bruins will be to knock down perimeter shots when Uconn inevitably packs the paint with their smaller players to prevent entry passes down to Betts and company.

Several of UCLA’s three point shooters are very tall and should be able to get their shots off against their Husky defenders who are mostly 5’9” types. Strong will have a lot on her plate trying to work the boards against players much bigger than herself while also defending the same in the post. Elfy might need the game of her life to help Strong enough against the wave of 6’4”+ players UCLA employs. If the Bruins are able to shoot reasonably well from the perimeter I can see them winning this game.

The X factor is coaching, where UConn has a decided advantage.

Ugh… rinse that palate. 😉🤙🏼
I know Chuck. I’m thinking a somewhat higher scoring game between these two tonight, maybe mid 70’s type of game. As good as GA is as a coach implementing a game plan, I would be very surprised if UCLA doesn’t dominate the boards. Also, even though UConn will likely be successful running plays to get their shooters open, their players still need to knock down a high percentage of their shots in a pressure packed environment to counter what will likely be a large rebounding advantage for the Bruins.

It will be quality viewing regardless. Two very different style teams.

Final predictions from this fan:

SC 65-60
Uconn 77-71

Both games could go either way tbh, that’s the nature of the FF. Hope everyone watches and enjoys these games and WBB continues to increase TV ratings so their next TV contract is equivalent to their value. The current TV deal is why WBB teams still operate in the red, which is archaic based upon todays viewership levels. TV networks are currently killing it financially with their recent deal covering WBB NCAA tournament and the contract requires WBB to share those TV revenues with all of the other non revenue collegiate sports. Dumb.

Rooster, I believe UCONN will take the whole damn thing....It's maddening to me, because I'm just so impressed with Paige Buecher...She is just fantastic...She has a sense of herself that lets you know she is going to be trouble all game long.....

She is the face of my enemy, but damn, she's great.

GT, we agree here, feels like destiny for her after her story. Give us some more of your life experiences on the potpourri thread btw, you write in a genuine way and I love reading that stuff, put it all on paper one day my friend.

Pat did not like his sense of humor and he patted her on the butt when no one was around!
