2025 Roster As It Stands on Dec 5, 2024

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen anyone projecting Sampson high enough to leave early. I think it's preposterous, but I think the highest RB ranking I've seen of him is 7th, don't think he is even a top 10 RB on Mel Kiper's board right now.

Beginning with the 2025-26 academic year, I think the scholarship limit increases to 105.
Izzzz grey area .... and I expect our number will be 103 ... I believe ... because we still minus 2 scholarships for ... 3 more years ... due to scholarship restrictions.
As I understand it the SEC is allowing 20 walk-ons in 2025 ... that allows them to be "converted to scholarship players in the future ... when the settlement is reached ... I think there will be a flurry of rules updates.
AND I think the SEC updates their 2025 rules to say ... "If everybody else can have 105 on scholarship ... we are not getting behind the 8 ball ... you can now sign your walk-ons to full scholarships.
2025 Rules and documentation CHANGED effective immediately!!!
At least that is what I think will happen.

Based on recent drafts, Dylan is likely a 4th - 5th rounder. No RB's were taken in the 1st round last year and only one in the second. So most are going in rounds 3-5, so given that's the trend anyway, he's gone.

cleaned up a bit. feel free to add to the original post
Alot of 2-3 deep roster talent here! This, along with high level QB play and continuity in coaching staff is good reason Vols should have staying power towards the top of the conference pecking order. @ RB position, it appears we're going to be more power run game?

It will be interesting to see how the depth chart changes starting tomorrow with the beginning of the transfer portal.

How do you figure?
Because we have more talent in the underclassmen. Perry, Warren, Sham, Ginther, Satterwhite, and Anderson are all going to be reality good after another year of development. Lance Heard will make a jump and likely be a star at LT. Karic should be back.

Spraggins has been subpar and Campbell has had to platoon with a former walk on at RT because a chronic knee injury and propensity for penalties has kept him from being what we hoped.

We’ll be worse at Center because Mays is a star, but Satterwhite will still be good. And we will be as good or better at the other 4 positions. And we will have more depth.

Think secondary last year to this year. Addition by subtraction. Sometimes you just have to move on from the status quo to improve. Adding McCoy and playing young guys like Gibson, Boo, and Harrison improved that group after cleaning house. We’ll do something similar on the OLine. The young talent is there. It will develop between now and August.

I don’t know if any of those guys you listed are better than our current starters cause I’ve hardly seen them play meaningful snaps. Some haven’t played any at all. I’ll take your word for it though. The biggest issue is losing mays. Every game he’s missed in his career, has resulted in horrendous play on the line and on offense in general. I do think Satterwhite has “looked” good in his limited time but losing Mays seems like a huge deal

They are not better right now. That’s why they don’t start. They will be better next year. They’re more talented, but need development. And poor Campbell is playing on one good knee.

Now that ESD is over and we know who we've signed (we've signed Sanders, publicly announced or not), this is what we look like heading into next season. I've removed Keith and Lang, as they've portaled. Don't pay too much attention to where a guy is on the depth chart at this point. This is just a shot in the dark guess that will obviously change in Spring and Fall practice. I defaulted freshmen to the bottom of the chart with a few exceptions like Sanders and Campbell who should push for PT early.

So we sit at 91 scholarship players. We are capped at 83, due to sanctions. We will need to lose 8 more just to get to that number, and that's before we add from the portal. I'm guessing we add 6-7, so we'll need to lose 14-15 total from what we have today.

@LWSVOL please let me know if I'm missing anyone or if someone I have listed as a scholarship player isn't on scholarship. To the best of my knowledge Bishop and Gilbert still are non-scholarship, but maybe I'm wrong.

This chart also presumes that a) Sampson declares for the NFL, b) Karic wins his medical RS appeal, c) Eason and Bailey both return for their final seasons of eligibility.
